Jan, Mona, and Leslie had breakfast at Orphey Gene’s and recounted Laura’s accident. Leslie wondered if there were any suspects, but there wasn’t. Mona noted that the crash happened near warehouses and assumed the police pulled footage from security cameras.
Mona noted that Eva was a quick learner and sure she would do a good job working with Nicole. They talked about Dani and the wedding fiasco. Mona said that she felt for Nicole because one of these days, the family drama would be too much for her.
At Nicole’s home office, Eva showed up early, although Nicole was going to meet her family for breakfast. They discussed the wedding incident, and Nicole defended her sister. Eva said she could understand. After Nicle left, Eva searched her office and found a key to unlock a cabinet drawer that was marked 2022 and locked.
Kat walked in and asked ‘who the hell’ she was. Eva explained how she was working there, and her association to Mona through Leslie. Kat haughtily commented that her connection must have gotten her the job as it certainly wasn’t her sense of style. Kat reminded Eva she worked for Nicole and told her that what she did was none of her business, threatened her position, and reminded her she was temporary.
After Kat left, Eva was on the phone when Ted walked in. He introduced himself and shook Eva’s hand. She was quite taken aback to be meeting her father. Ted told Eva his job was to make his wife’s life happier, and she was helping to make that happen. Jacob came over and gave Ted an update on Laura’s case. After reviewing security footage, he could see the motorcycle, but the license plate was removed, and the driver was wearing a helmet. Eva eavesdropped on their conversation as Jacob revealed there were no clues at all to go on to find out who drove Laura off the road.
Martin and Smitty were playing basketball at the club. Martin was sure that if he waited it out, another news piece would pop up, and his aunt Dani’s scandal would be history.
Nicole met with Kat at the club, and ranted that she didn’t trust Eva. Nicole said that she hired her herself after an interview and checking her references.
In the country club dining room, Vanessa was being flirtatious with Diego, but her husband, Doug, walked in. Vanessa and Doug had breakfast and talked about the distance in their marriage. Doug insisted he’d been busy at work but agreed he needed to set some boundaries with his patients.
Diego came to the table and asked Vanessa about one of her listings. He said his cousin was coming to town and was interested but wondered if he could preview it. Vanessa told him they could see it when she was done with breakfast. While they talked, Doug looked at the race betting sheet on his phone.
Doug had to race off but accidentally dropped a poker chip on the table. He told Vanessa it must have been from the charity event he went to. As he left, he said hi to Ted who was coming in to meet his family across the dining room.
The Richardsons talked about the wedding and how the family was handling the scandals. Vanessa dropped by and showed her support before going to meet with Diego. Ted left for work at the hospital, leaving Nicole to continue talking about Eva. As a psychiatrist, Kat thought Nicole’s assistant should have some style. She warned her mom that Eva was suss and said Nicole would regret bringing Eva into her life.
Later, Kat left, and Smitty confided to Nicole that he had put out some feelers to see if there was any interest in him getting back into journalism. Martin overheard Smitty admitting he hadn’t told his husband yet.
When Nicole was alone at the table, Martin sat down and wanted to discuss the next steps of his career. Nicole thought that was a conversation he usually had with his grandfather. Martin agreed and said that he would, but he wanted his mom to hear something from him first. “I’m considering running for President,” Martin shared. Nicole excitedly jumped up and hugged him.
Eva went home to give her an update on her morning so far. Leslie came in from breakfast and was surprised to find Eva at home. “Mama, I met him. I met my father!” Eva told her. Leslie was taken aback and wanted her to spill it. Leslie hoped Eva wasn’t disappointed that Ted talked to her like an employee. Eva could understand how Leslie fell for his charms. Leslie said that he had dropped her for Nicole. “I’m his daughter, and not a flicker of recognition!” Eva told her. She said Ted did Leslie dirty and knew how scared she must have been to be a single mom. She wanted to put Ted on blast when she met him. Leslie assured her that she could soon enough and that their day was just around the corner.
Eva told her mom about Kat and how awful she was to her. Leslie told her to stand tall because Kat would soon find out that she wasn’t the only daddy’s little girl anymore. Eva shared that Jacob came by about Laura’s crash. Eva said he had nothing to go on, and Leslie said she prayed they’d find the culprit. Eva said she felt guilty about benefitting from Laura’s misfortune. Eva noted that Leslie had been known to rent bikes before and asked her if she had anything to do with Laura’s crash.
Leslie freaked out that Eva’s question was ridiculous. When Leslie denied it, Eva wondered if her mom hired a hit man to knock of Laura so she could work with the Duprees. Leslie asked how she could think of her that way. Eva backed down but Leslie wondered if Eva wanted to back out from the plan. Eva said she was still ten toes down. They recounted their plan: Eva would get the Richardsons to trust her and let down her guard, then Leslie would make their world crash. Soon after, Eva would get her name and birthright.
Jacob went to Orphey Gene’s to meet his dad, who was chief of police. Jacob lamented that he had to tell Ted Richardson there was no way to identify the driver. Jacob was more upset that he’d let down his dad at the wedding when he had a duty to act but didn’t. His dad told him in the heat of the moment, a good cop trusted his gut and thought Jacob did fine. He added that it all worked out so let it be.
Doug was a poker game instead of work but was losing badly. He asked for a loan from the house but was rejected. He called in a friend named Randy who worked for the owner of the casino. He asked him to get him a loan but when Randy found out how much Doug owed, he balked. Randy told him to ask Vanessa for the money as her family was loaded and warned him that his boss, Joey, didn’t mess around.
At the showing, Diego offered to give Vanessa what she wanted. “About damn time,” she said as they began to kiss. Diego pulled her into a bedroom.
