On Beyond the Gates, Bill pulled away from kissing Dani, who had thought Bill had shared the feelings that had come up while looking through their photo albums. Bill denied that he had gotten as caught up in old memories as she had. Bill said he hadn't consented to Dani's kiss, and Dani jokingly asked if Bill was going to send her to jail again. Bill proposed that he should have blocked Dani's overture with his wedding ring, but Dani held that she'd been there; she'd seen what had happened. While Bill insisted that what he and Dani had was in the past, Dani crowed that she was in Bill's blood. Yet, Dani realized that Bill was only there because he wanted something from her. “It's not for me,” Bill reluctantly admitted. “It's for Hayley.”

Dani snarked that “the great and powerful Bill Hamilton” was on an errand for his “mid-life crisis wife.” Bill explained how Hayley was being ostracized at the country club and asked Dani to get her friends to back off. Dani replied that if the patrons were freezing Hayley out, it wasn't because Dani had told them to. Dani seethed that she wished Bill could see how he looked running around Fairmont Crest with his child bride. Bill barked that Dani was just mad that Bill now had a woman who made him feel like a man should feel. Bill called himself honest to a fault. “So you're gonna tell your new bride that you kissed me?” Dani grinned.

Bill insisted that Dani had instigated the kiss, but Dani reminded her ex that she hadn't asked him over. Dani was certain that Bill still wanted her and that he knew that his marriage to Hayley was a mistake. Bill hesitated but finally told Dani to get a job or a hobby – and to get her country club friends to treat Hayley with respect. Dani argued that she had always done what Bill asked her from the very beginning. Bill rolled his eyes as Dani went over quitting modeling for him and giving him children. All Dani had demanded of Bill, she said, was love. What Hayley had taken from her could never be replaced. And, Dani added, she couldn't be replaced, either. After Dani had handed Bill the deed to their Rehobeth house, Bill declared them finished. “Keep thinking that,” Dani retorted as he left.

Hayley brought dinner to Bill's office, but Caroline reported that he wasn't there; she also added that Naomi's case was still active after Hayley assumed Naomi had rescinded it. Hayley groused that Naomi was playing hardball and asked where Bill was, but Caroline claimed confidentiality. Hayley insisted that Caroline reveal Bill's whereabouts. Afterwards, Caroline advised Hayley against speculating why Bill had gone to Dani's – though Caroline did note that, when it came to persuading people, Bill was a king.

Hayley waited for Bill, flashing back to the times Dani had warned her about his tendency to philander. When Bill returned, Hayley hoped that Bill hadn't been trying to get Dani to talk Naomi out of her case. No, Bill answered; Dani had been so deep in her delusions that she didn't even know about the suit. Hayley realized that Bill had spoken to Dani about the situation at the country club and was furious. Bill likened it to Hayley going to Naomi about the suit, but Hayley didn't see the correlation. Bill assured Hayley that he had done it for her and assumed Dani had begun to move on with her life. Hayley concurred that Bill had just admitted why he had gone to Dani's, but she wanted details about what had happened when he was there.

Hayley thought it odd that Bill had gone to see Dani at night without mentioning his intentions to her first. Bill relayed that he and Dani had needed to hash some things out about selling their home in Rehobeth; Bill said he wanted to use his windfall from the sale to buy a weekend house for himself and Hayley. Bill described how the walk down memory lane regarding the house had led Dani to admit to wanting him back, but he left out the part about the kiss. Hayley found it hard to believe that Bill was finally able to convince Dani to move on when his many previous entreaties hadn't worked.

Bill said that Dani had finally realized that what they once had didn't compare to what Bill had with Hayley in the present. Bill promised he wouldn't do anything to jeopardize their marriage as the mood between them became romantic, and they headed for home.

Jacob assured Naomi that her suing Bill over Mike's actions wasn't revenge. Naomi supported Jacob, who had his own moral dilemma over possibly having a crook as a partner. Meanwhile, Marcel met Joey on a street near the station; as Jacob drove in, he happened to see Marcel accepting two large envelopes from Joey – presumably full of cash – and immediately reported it to Elon. In a hushed tone, Elon told Jacob that they had to keep what Jacob saw quiet because Joey was actually an informant helping the force catch a foreign agent — Joey had given Marcel marked bills to pay off the agent, which would help lead to an arrest. They were, Elon explained, using a suspected crook to catch a real one. Jacob had trouble believing the tale at first but agreed to button his lip.

Later, Elon took Marcel aside and growled that this was the second time Jacob had picked up on a sketchy connection between Marcel and Joey. Elon warned that Marcel's career was over if he kept screwing up. From a distance, Jacob saw the fraught conference between his father and his partner.

Naomi saw an empty table at Uptown and remembered when she sat there with her father, who was giving her his full support over her taking on her biggest case up to that point. Bill championed Naomi as being born to be an attorney, with Naomi smiling that she had learned from the best; her grandparents snapped her out of her reverie. Naomi discussed the case with the elder Duprees; Anita said witness intimidation was bold even for Bill. Naomi considered slapping Bill with legal penalties for his actions — including siccing Hayley on her. Vernon didn't want his granddaughter to be too hasty; to Naomi's dismay, he suggested that Naomi go easy on Bill because the family had already been through enough public spectacle.

Naomi expected Anita would back her up, but her grams reasoned that Naomi should find a balance: hold Bill accountable while not making him an enemy. Naomi became suspicious and said that Vernon and Anita suddenly sounded like they did when they forced the rest of the Duprees to attend Bill and Hayley's wedding. Anita acknowledged that whether or not Naomi dropped the suit was up to her — it was that things could get ugly with Bill. “They usually do,” Vernon chimed in.

Jacob met Naomi at Uptown and wanted to talk about what he'd seen of Marcel but noticed that Naomi was distressed. Naomi couldn't get over how odd it was that her grandparents were worried about Bill retaliating if he lost the lawsuit. But she had made up her mind: she was going to go after Bill with everything she had. As for the Duprees, they returned home, with Anita grousing that Bill had too much power. Vernon was determined that they not let Bill pull any triggers, owing to the trouble he could cause the family. They needed to make sure Bill never felt empowered to.

Ashley fretted that her place was a mess and that there were only leftovers to serve Andre. Derek was glad for the chance to get to know Andre and hoped they'd find something in common between them – besides Ashley. After Andre arrived, he and Derek discussed sports teams while a bored Ashley sat by; Andre then asked if Derek wanted to be a part of his documentary. Derek complained that he had received enough ribbing from his fellow firefighters about the cat-saving article, but Ashley felt that, since Derek had also been a patient at the hospital, his perspective could be important.

Andre took a call, answering, “Hey, babe.” He informed Derek and Ashley that he had to go and rushed out. “Did he just...” Ashley started. “Rush out of here for a booty call?” Derek finished. “Oh, yeah.” Ashley didn't look thrilled. The couple debated the reason the always-travelling Andre was sticking around town — Ashley thought it was for a woman, Derek felt it was for a job. Ashley said if Derek was right, they'd have to find him a woman. “I just want Andre to know what this is like,” Ashley added, kissing Derek.

Ashley worked to get Derek to do Andre's documentary since there were stories only someone like Derek could tell. Ashley put forward that Derek tell Andre what it was like being in the hospital, and how it had been having a knowledgeable, attentive nurse like her to dote on. “Smartest person I know,” Derek beamed. “She chose a guy like me to fall in love with.” The firefighter and nurse kissed passionately.

Dani let Andre in, vexed that she had taken him away from a dinner with friends. In addition, she reasoned that she should limit her exposure to Andre because soon enough, he'd be far away, and she wouldn't see him for months. Besides, Dani noted, he was her sister's nephew. “I'm her husband's nephew,” Andre clarified. “You are not in my family tree.” He told Dani about the documentary and predicted he could be around for quite a while; he didn't want to label what he and Dani had, but he did propose to be there when Dani called. “If I call,” Dani replied coyly. Andre hoped that Dani would.

As they took their clothes off, Dani explained to Andre how Bill had stopped by, and what he had wanted. For one brief moment, Dani admitted, she'd thought that Bill was going to ask her to come back to him. “Why do you even waste your time?” Andre wanted to know. Dani realized she needed to accept that she and Bill weren't going to reunite, but she needed Andre to help her forget that Bill was even on the planet. Andre seductively commented that the best way to get over someone was to get under someone else, and the two began to make love.

Basking in the afterglow, Dani deemed Andre a better distraction than chocolate. Dani wondered what she was helping Andre to forget — work? Another woman? — but Andre wouldn't clarify. Dani mused that even if Bill promised her forever, she wouldn't be able to forgive what he did. Dani decided she needed more “distraction”, and Andre replied that he'd be happy to provide that service.
