Here's what happened on the April 7, 2025 episode of Beyond the Gates

On Beyond the Gates, Martin had another nightmare, this time involving a tire iron. When Smitty unintentionally startled Martin by gently placing a hand on his shoulder, Martin yelled for him to get away. Once Martin regained lucidity, he tried to turn up the charm to throw Smitty off, claiming he'd just thought Smitty was a burglar, but Smitty wasn't receptive. Smitty wanted to talk about how Tyrell was being bullied and revealed he had done some “quiet recon” at Tyrell's school. “Yeah, you're smart like that,” Martin said worriedly when Smitty noted that he preferred to get people to volunteer information rather than come across as grilling them.
Smitty reported that there had been stories of fights leading to suspensions, but nothing that indicated Tyrell's involvement. Martin got fired up and wanted to confront people at the school before Tyrell was injured further. Smitty cautioned Martin that he didn't have all the facts and could end up humiliating Tyrell.
Talk shifted to Smitty's first assignment as a rebooted investigative reporter: looking into a beauty influencer who had been exposed grooming underage kids. Smitty was on to a ring of such influencers. “Abuse and corruption hidden by smiles and clout?” Martin asked. “Sounds like every day on Capitol Hill to me.”
Smitty corroborated Martin's idea to talk to social media queen Chelsea but brought the subject back to why Martin had thought Smitty was an intruder. Martin clammed up, and Smitty reminded them that they'd promised to be better at communicating. Martin got agitated and walked out to get some air.
Vernon had trouble coming up with an upcoming speech for the August 28th Foundation; Anita agreed to help him find his voice, causing him to remember how she used to do the same for him between shows at the Apollo. As Vernon went over what he had written so far about standing up to bullies, his great-grandchildren, Tyrell and Samantha, came through the door.
After the elder Duprees noticed the scab on Tyrell's face, the teen retold his bike accident story; Samantha looked concerned by a text but pivoted to borrowing Anita's books of Langston Hughes poetry. Vernon challenged Tyrell to a game of chess, and Tyrell good-naturedly mocked Vernon for his age. Samantha returned, getting another text that said that “everyone” had seen “it”. Anita later noticed that Samantha seemed distracted. Once the teens left, Samantha warned Tyrell that news about him was “blowing up the school feed.”
Once home, Samantha felt it wouldn't be long before their fellow students moved on, but Tyrell didn't think so. He asked Samantha to remain mum to their parents, though she was worried a teacher might come across the picture of the underwear-clad Tyrell and go to the Richardson-Smiths on their own. As he obsessed over the comments, Samantha snatched Tyrell's phone from him, and the approaching Smitty wondered what his kids were looking at.
The teens lied that they'd been entertaining themselves with a celebrity beef on social media; as Tyrell went upstairs, Smitty stopped Samantha and asked how her brother had been since his bike accident. Smitty expressed concern that kids might be making fun of Tyrell for his fall, but Samantha simply advised Smitty that he worried too much.
Martin arrived at his grandparents' house, where he confided in Vernon and Anita that he'd been having dreams about “that night.” They were becoming more frequent and vivid, and Smitty was catching on; Martin didn't know how much longer he could snow his husband, and it was consuming him. The Duprees turned the conversation to Martin's presidential ambitions, which Martin deemed completely unrelated to his nightmares. Vernon wasn't certain – neither was Anita, who said that Martin's subconscious could be sending him a warning.
Martin animatedly replied that he wanted to continue the legacy Vernon had begun as a senator by doing good things in a higher office; the congressman then exclaimed that he hadn't known why he'd come over and stalked out. Anita feared that there was no way the situation could end but terribly.
At the hospital, Nicole introduced Eva to a recuperating Laura; Eva flashed back to asking Leslie if she'd had anything to do with Laura's accident. Laura beamed that Nicole had been so complimentary of Eva, and she wondered if she'd have a job to go back to. As Mona joined them, Laura confessed that she'd had a follow-up orthopedic procedure but that she was being released the following day. Stone-faced, Eva acknowledged that she'd known her gig wouldn't last forever. After Eva left, Mona and Laura shocked Nicole by revealing that Laura's motorcyclist assailant had come back to examine Laura's car after running Laura off the road.
Ted tracked Leslie down at her apartment, asking her how it felt to be the one stalked for a change. Ted didn't care that Leslie threatened to scream and put on a performance worthy of Viola Davis for the cops. Applauding, Ted said it would be the word of a well-respected gentleman over “whatever you are.” He gave Leslie the $50,000 she'd demanded and told her they could avoid mutual destruction if she took the money and left for good. Ted snarked that at least Leslie didn't have any kids tying her down – then said, “I'm sorry, Dana,” regarding the comment.
Leslie recalled being surprised that Ted's lawyer hadn't accompanied her to the abortion clinic to make sure she'd had the procedure. “I didn't know about that,” Ted responded, stunned. When Leslie kept sassing him, Ted moved to take back the money, but Leslie yelped that she'd indeed leave. She grabbed at it, purposely knocking over a picture of her and Eva before taunting Ted that they should call Nicole over so they could all count the cash together.
Ted demanded that Leslie leave Nicole out of the matter, but Leslie countered that Ted had involved Nicole himself by stepping out on her. Leslie insisted what they'd had was real, yet Ted had chosen his perfect life over the pregnant Leslie. Ted admitted he'd made a mistake – betraying Nicole. After Leslie balked, Ted went a step further and expressed regret for letting Leslie think he was going to leave Nicole for her. He realized that Leslie was still in pain, but he wasn't going to let her blow up his life all these years later. Eva walked in on Ted warning Leslie that he would do whatever it took to protect his family.
Leslie covered as Eva ducked out. Once Ted left, Leslie told the returning Eva there was no danger of Ted coming back – Leslie had told Ted that she was leaving town. Leslie tossed Ted's money to Eva and purred that they'd lay low and let Ted think he'd won...until the anniversary party. Eva marveled while sifting through the money but wondered if Ted literally paying for what he'd done to them was already enough. When Leslie crowed that they needed to carve out a place in Ted's family for Eva, Eva feared the scheme might backfire.
Leslie didn't concur with Eva's theory that Ted might come clean to Nicole on his own first, invalidating the plot. Ms. Thomas figured Ted wouldn't have coughed up the cash if he'd planned to beat her to the punch. She encouraged Eva to stay the course and departed, smiling that Eva always came first with her.
After getting her preoccupied husband's attention, Nicole relayed how Vanessa had bought Joey's story about trying to conceal buying a senior-accessible home under the guise of purchasing it for his mother, who was dead. Ted kept a straight face as Nicole lamented watching a loved one get caught up with someone shady.
At Orphey's Gene's, Leslie had Jan, who worked in Fairmont Crest, catch her up on the gated community's gossip. Leslie was shaken when Mona arrived, announcing that Laura was about to leave the hospital – more so by the realization that Eva's job was coming to an end.
Eva shared that same realization with Nicole and Ted when she stopped by their house to deliver some forms Nicole had requested. Eva divulged that if she'd had a home like theirs, she'd fight like hell to hold on to it; Ted took notice of the statement. After Eva had excused herself, Ted reveled in the return of Laura but was sad they had to lose Eva. “Do we?” Nicole asked. She contemplated the possibility of having not one but two personal assistants.
While Vernon practiced his revised speech draft, which touched on the importance of love and family during times of turmoil, facing struggles head-on, being true to oneself, and understanding the origins of evil, a montage played – of Martin and Smitty having family time with Samantha and Tyrell, Ted and Nicole sharing a warm marital moment, Eva considering her options...and Leslie, donning another new wig and a nurse's outfit, sneaking into Laura's room and injecting something into her IV.
