On Beyond the Gates, Smitty, Martin, and Tyrell were out, so Samantha texted Chelsea to come over and talk about going forward with her modeling. Dani stopped by and told an uncomfortable Samantha that Martin had explained the career Samantha had chosen — Dani wanted to offer Samantha her guidance and tried to insert herself as Samantha's manager. As Samantha tried to wiggle her way out of Dani's bulldozing, Chelsea showed up, and Dani realized Samantha had asked Chelsea to manage her. Chelsea told the disappointed Dani that she would probably be too busy with her design company, and it was Dani who had all the experience, but Samantha wanted Chelsea.

Dani rebounded and suggested that her input would still be valuable; she offered for Samantha to join her and Chelsea at her studio set-up to get some pointers. When the trio arrived, Dani invited Samantha to explore the space and said that even girls in expensive modeling schools didn't get access to such resources. Dani went in search of snacks, and Samantha told Chelsea that she was far more at ease with Chelsea, who was closer to her age. Chelsea described her mom as being in “manager mode” — and promised she'd handle Dani.

Dani brought tidbits that wouldn't cause breakouts and sent Samantha to try on a dress. After Dani went on about what Chelsea should do as Samantha's manager, Chelsea stepped in. “I'm doing it again,” Dani clued in.

At the hospital, Shanice gossiped to her friend on the phone about the fashion show and about the First-Gen charity booting Dani from its board; Shanice was firmly Team Dani. Eva interrupted, delivering flowers for Laura from Nicole. Eva asked about Laura's sudden infection. Shanice wouldn't betray patient confidentiality but hinted that Laura's friend Mona was a fountain of info. Shanice also wondered what Mona would think of Laura's new nurse. Eva felt that Nicole might want to talk to the staffer as well but asked enough questions about her that Shanice wondered why Eva was so curious. With a lack of self-awareness, Shanice told Eva she was “very nosy.”

In Ted's hospital office, Andre looked over footage he'd taken of Nicole for his documentary, in which the psychiatrist admitted that she had sometimes needed therapy herself — it had started when Nicole had had a miscarriage and couldn't find Ted for support when Martin, then a toddler, was sick. Ted caught part of it and pointed out that Nicole wasn't needed to appear in the project since she wasn't a nurse. Ted took a phone call and thought no one was on the other end, but it was Leslie, silently debating if she should say anything. Ted hung up before she could.

When Andre was still intrigued by his interview with Nicole, and Ted remained unenthused, Andre suggested he could use it in a sequel. Watching the clip of his wife with Andre, Ted heard Nicole elaborating on that blizzardy night and her ramping fear that she was going to lose her son and her husband, which had caused her to seek help. Afterwards, Andre accepted Ted's invitation to the anniversarial celebration and couldn't wait to use his camera to document “the perfect marriage.” Ted winced and said his marriage wasn't perfect.

Andre, having spent so much time around his aunt and uncle after his parents died, disagreed. Andre considered Ted a second father and felt that, because of Ted's influence, Andre wanted to be his best self — and not like Bill, who had hurt Dani so much by cheating on her. When Andre was certain that Ted could never do that to Nicole, Ted ordered Andre to stop. “I'm not who you think I am,” Ted barked, saying Andre gave him too much credit. Seeing his uncle was troubled, Andre offered for Ted to bend his ear without judgment. “I'm no different than Bill Hamilton,” Ted finally said. Andre was shocked to learn that Ted had been unfaithful to Nicole.

Andre couldn't believe that Ted had strayed. Ted insisted that his marriage to Nicole was solid now, but some twenty years earlier, before Kat was born, it hadn't been. Despite enduring several miscarriages, the Richardsons had kept trying to have another baby, and Nicole had become fixated on it to the point that Ted's attentions went elsewhere. Ted had continued to bed a carefree waitress/bartender and had convinced both of them that there was more than sex happening between them to assuage his guilt. Andre was stunned that the woman had gotten pregnant; Ted explained how she had decided to get an abortion.

Ted swore that once the woman had left town, he'd dedicated himself to being a better husband and father and gotten his marriage to the place it was in today. Cheating on Nicole, Ted confessed, had scared him straight. Andre was surprised to learn that Nicole was still unaware of the infidelity and sensed that there was a reason these past events were on Ted's mind in the present. Ted assured his nephew that he wasn't sick — the woman he had paid off to leave had come back: Ted divulged how she had pretended to be suicidal to get to Nicole, then showed up at Nicole's awards gala. Ted had found the lady quirky during their assignation, but now she was unstable. He didn't know what she was capable of, so he had given her more money to stay away from his family.

Andre reiterated that he wouldn't judge Ted, and Ted was relieved to finally have been able to tell someone what he'd done. Andre suggested that Ted come clean with Nicole, which would neutralize “that Dana woman,” but Ted didn't want to stir the pot so close to their anniversary. Andre was concerned that “Dana” would come back; Ted was sure that the new infusion of cash was enough to keep her at bay. Seeing “Dana” again had reminded Ted how selfish and callous he had been, cheating while knowing that Nicole was hurting. Andre advised Ted to let the past go and focus on the good man he had been for over two decades.

Leslie cared for her “Lulu” wig and thought back to injecting Laura's I.V. with potassium. Staring at an invitation to Ted and Nicole's anniversary party, which Eva had done up, Leslie laughed that she had the “perfect gift for the sappy couple.” Leslie was startled when Eva came home and saw her wearing the wig; Eva noted that she had seen Leslie in disguises before. Was there something to this one? Leslie bragged that her costumes helped her get intel, as people were more inclined to talk to strangers than folks they knew.

Eva concluded that Leslie had pretended to be Laura's nurse. Leslie denied it and wanted to know why Eva had been talking to Shanice, but Eva put it together that Laura had taken her turn for the worse at the same time the “new nurse” had reported. Leslie mockingly said that Eva had caught her and detailed what Eva probably thought her “total psychopath” mother had done: run Laura off the road and then attempted to finish the job in Laura's hospital room. Furious, Leslie couldn't believe that Eva considered her capable of murder.

Leslie taunted Eva for working for Nicole; Eva came back that it had been Leslie who had arranged the job. Leslie was adamant that she wanted more for Eva, but Eva was of the opinion that Leslie wanted more for herself. Eva rolled her eyes at Leslie's martyrdom over being a single mother and reminded her that she'd had a stepfather in Alan. “Alan was there like a rug growing mites!” Leslie countered. They had gotten by, yet Alan wasn't Ted. Eva conceded the point but snapped that Ted hadn't wanted her.

Letting up, Leslie implored Eva to see that she was simply trying to right the wrongs that “those two bastards” had done to them. Eva apologized for letting her imagination run away with her and for thinking Leslie could have hurt Laura — it was just that Eva was scared of what might happen if Leslie didn't dial things down. Leslie cried that if she ever went too far out on a limb, she knew Eva would catch her.

Andre ran into Eva at Uptown; she asked if he still needed help with his documentary, as Nicole had intimated. Andre didn't, but promised Eva he'd keep her in mind if something came up. Eva asked if Andre had run across a new nurse who had recently transferred while filming. Andre hadn't and described how he had shown his uncle some of the dailies; Eva put forth that Andre and Ted seemed close. Andre looked uneasy as he said that Ted had his back, and he had Ted's.

Ted called Nicole and proffered an evening of martinis and back rubs. After hanging up with her, his phone rang again, but Ted chose not to answer and left his office. Leslie slammed her phone down and seethed that she would not be ignored. “See you at the party,” she told the Richardsons' invitation, which showed a party date of April 29.

Annoyed, casino owner Joey watched Doug win at the poker table. As Doug readied to bet all $10,000 of his winnings on the next game, he was sidelined by both Randy's caution and a call from Shanice, who had Doug report to the hospital to perform heart surgery on an accident victim. Randy was surprised when Joey expressed pleasure at Doug having to cut out — because Doug was getting bank, which was not part of the plan. Joey had Randy cover for him so he could take off.

Vanessa was at Uptown when she got a text from Diego. She was about to take him up on his offer of more hanky panky when she saw Joey enter, and she blew Diego off. Joey was glad that Vanessa could meet with him; she made clear that Doug had a late-night surgery and that they didn't see each other as much as they once did. Vanessa tried to change the subject to the house Joey wanted to buy, but Joey inquired further. Vanessa didn't want to talk about her relationship with Doug. Joey mentioned having been married to the love of his life, but between his then-brand-new casino and his other businesses, his neglected wife had had an affair.

Hearing that Joey had run the interloper out of town, Vanessa was intrigued and wanted to know how. Joey would only say the story was funny and asked about “Dudley.” After Vanessa corrected Joey about her husband's name, she gave the account of how she and Doug had met in high school — and had been together ever since. Joey found it sweet and wished he had found that kind of love. Vanessa said she knew of Joey's dating life from the tabloids, adding, “Not that I've been stalking you or anything.” Joey cautioned Vanessa not to believe everything she read online, especially about him.

When Doug got to the hospital, Shanice noticed that he seemed off, but he dismissed her concern. In the OR, Doug kept thinking back to the poker game, and his hand started to shake mid-surgery. His inability to use his scalpel caused the patient's blood pressure to plummet, so Doug had another doctor take over. Afterwards, Doug walked through the nurses' station in a daze and took a call from Randy, admitting he was exhausted from a long stretch of only getting four hours of sleep a night. He had been running himself ragged, working all day and then gambling all night, and something had to give. Doug announced to Randy that he was quitting gambling.
