Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 1 came to an end on February 19, 2025, with the release of its final two episodes. The action-packed season concluded with an equally exciting finale as several surprising revelations came out.
The final episode delves into Spider-Man’s origin story, which is starkly different from the one seen in other shows and films based on the superhero. Instead of being bitten by a radioactive spider, a young Peter is stung by an experimental spider that travels from the present to the past, which gives him superpowers.
Meanwhile, Peter also gets an idea about Norman Osborn’s real intentions. At the same time, an important family member, who was presumed dead, returns to the story. Here is an explanation of the ending of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 1.
How did Peter get superpowers in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man?
During the final episode of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, Doctor Strange and Spider-Man fight a dangerous Symbiote that comes from a portal created by Norman Osborn’s experiment, Project Monolith.
Amid all the chaos, a spider that Oscorp was experimenting on escapes and falls through the portal. It goes into the past and bites a younger Peter Parker at his school’s orientation day.
Hence, the spider that gave Peter his powers did not just come from Oscorp, but also traveled back in time, creating a loop in the origin story. As Peter learns how he got his powers, he realizes that some things in life can not be avoided, and fully accepts his role as Spider-Man.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 1 ending explained: What Is Norman up to?
Norman Osborn has been acting like he wants to help young scientists, but he has some hidden motives. He uses Peter and the other Oscorp interns to create a machine that can open a gateway to space. While he claims it will help humanity, he wants to gain infinite power.
But Norman’s experiment goes horribly wrong. The portal opens to a planet full of Symbiotes, which are dangerous alien creatures that attach to people and take control of them. One of these Symbiotes escapes through the portal and starts attacking the city.
While Peter and Doctor Strange fight against it, the Symbiote tries to bring more creatures through the portal. Strange and Peter work together to close the portal and send the creatures back. But one small piece of the Symbiote gets left behind, and Norman finds it.
Peter ultimately realizes that Norman is not trustworthy. He decides to quit his internship at Oscorp. Instead, he joins his best friend Harry Osborn’s new company, Worldwide Engineering Brigade, aka W.E.B., where young geniuses are invited to work together.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 1 ending explained: Is Peter’s father alive?
The biggest surprise in the finale comes right at the end. While Peter moves forward with his life, Aunt May visits a man in prison. The man is then revealed to be Richard Parker, Peter’s father.
The show never mentions Peter’s dad until the finale and does not explain why he has been in prison all this time. When May visits him, Richard asks her about Peter, which hints he still cares about his son. The episode ends with shots of Spider-Man swinging through the city.
However, he is unaware that his father is in prison, and the threat of the Symbiote and Norman still looms over him. Meanwhile, Otto Octavius is turning into Doctor Octopus as he is creating special arms for his suit in the prison.
