While Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is regarded as a component of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Phase 5, it is set in an alternate world that is not part of the regular MCU chronology. The program intends to present a fresh take on Peter Parker's origin story as he strives to reconcile his high school life with his superhero duties.
In December, the official Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man video was published, emphasizing the show's tone and distinct graphic style. The style and tonality of the show are created with a view to pay tribute to the vintage Spider-Man comic books.
What to expect from Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man?
The upcoming Disney+ show will feature several changes to the usual iteration of Spiderman. One of the main draws of the new animated show will be the setting of the beloved superhero against his neighborhood. Speaking about the significance of the title, Brad Winderbaum, the head of Marvel Television and Marvel Animation, had previously stated:
"There’s a reason why we changed the title to Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. It’s about the neighborhood. It’s an ensemble show. Every character is well-defined and has amazing arcs, from Peter and Nico to Lonnie and Pearl.”
The animated series will recount Peter's tale in an alternate timeframe, thus ensuring that his story remains unchanged until Captain America: Civil War when things take a shift. In this spin-off, Norman Osborn becomes Peter's mentor, altering all we know about Spider-Man in the MCU.
In terms of character designs and animation, head writer Jeff Trammel had previously stated that the series would pay respect to earlier films and shows while also including numerous fan-favorite characters. Trammel had mentioned:
"Looking at John Romita and Steve Ditko as inspiration then being able to modernize that style thanks to artists like our lead character designer, Leo Romero, allowed us to really plant our flag in a style that feels like a moving comic book."
