Young Sheldon: Why didn't we see Pastor Rob in the finale of the BBT spin-off? Details revisited 

The Big Bang Theory's prequel spin-off, Young Sheldon, ended with an emotional finale, which saw the sudden death of George Cooper by a heart attack.

While the death of the Cooper patriarch was a tragic loss for Sheldon's family, the finale saw many recurring characters return to support Mary in this difficult time.

One face that was missing from George's funeral and the spin-off's finale was Pastor Rob, who briefly had feelings for Mary in Season 5.

Pastor Rob's absence from the Young Sheldon finale proved that he respected Mary and did not want to wreck her marriage, even after her husband's death. His absence further highlighted the strength of Mary's and George's marriage.

Exploring Mary and Pastor Rob's storyline in Young Sheldon

Pastor Rob was introduced in Young Sheldon Season 5 as part of Pastor Jeff's Sunday school. He was young and attractive, which was why Missy was initially infatuated with him.

Considering Mary's Christian faith and love for visiting the church, she was bound to come across Pastor Rob, and when she finally did, she was also infatuated by his charm and youthfulness.

This was also when she was struggling with her family and her marriage to George. Between her husband spending time with Brenda and Georgie and Mandy's unexpected pregnancy, things were not right at her home, so she understandably turned towards Church and her faith in religion, due to which Pastor Rob came into the picture.

She eventually began working with the church in Young Sheldon and became co-workers with Pastor Rob, who soon turned into friends. While Mary would never have acted on her attraction towards Rob, their equation started to change when he hinted that he might also harbor feelings for Mary.

In Young Sheldon Season 5 Episode 21, Pastor Rob finally revealed that he was moving away to Arkansas in a last attempt to ask Mary indirectly if they have a future. Mary does not stop him, and that is the last time we see him in the spin-off.

Pastor Rob was never mentioned in The Big Bang Theory

While many characters from Young Sheldon appeared in TBBT, especially Sheldon's mother, Mary, Pastor Rob was never mentioned in relation to her or individually.

While we know little about Mary's life after the spin-off series ended, TBBT offered glimpses into her life, including the men she dated, but Pastor Rob was not one of them, confirming that neither acted on their feelings after George's death.

While her marriage with George made it difficult for Pastor Rob to start anything with Mary, he could have seen George's death as an opportunity to make his way back into her life.

But his absence proves that while he initially appeared to be a threat to Mary's marriage, he truly respected her and probably George and was not an opportunist.

For Mary, her speech at George's funeral was enough to confirm her love for George and how much she was grief-stricken after his sudden death. Sure, she was going through a rough patch in her marriage when she met Pastor Rob, but she still loved George till the end, which is why she also did not reconnect with Rob after her husband's death.
