Young Sheldon is all about the child prodigy Sheldon Cooper’s antics and the adventures that his family gets into. While Sheldon’s family members know how to showcase empathy and can discern when they should speak and when they should keep quiet, it is amusing to notice that Sheldon is bereft of all these qualities. Sheldon is a peculiar character, and there are countless moments that highlight his stubbornness, often making him insufferable. Here are nine such times.
When Sheldon argued with the Pastor, when he broke the fridge, and other moments when Sheldon was insufferable from Young Sheldon
1. When Sheldon blackmailed Georgie

Sheldon Cooper from Young Sheldon might be one of the most genius child prodigies around, but he can also be annoying and unfair at times. Throughout the series, his relationship with his elder brother Georgie has been one of love and hate. While the two have had some lovable moments, there have also been times when the two have used each other for some fun. In season 2, episode 14, Sheldon comes to know that his brother Georgie is being bullied by another student called Tommy Clarkson, instead of helping his brother out, because Sheldon has also been a victim of bullying, he decides to become friends with Tommy and uses this to his advantage to blackmail boss around Georgie and make him do things for him. While the whole episode is hilarious and Sheldon does it in harmless fun, it does show that when the time comes, even Sheldon can put his studies aside and learn how to use and abuse his power. For someone so passionate about rules and ethics, it is amusing to see that Sheldon became annoying in this instance and threw aside his own principles to get back at Georgie.
2. When Sheldon argued with the Pastor

Sheldon Cooper from Young Sheldon is known for his annoyance towards religion as he believes in hard facts and results and does not understand the language of faith. There are many instances in the show when he argues with his mother and the resident Pastor over the validity of religion. In season 1, episode 3, Sheldon grudgingly attends Church with his mother, and when Pastor Jeff says that there is a 50-50 chance of God being real, Sheldon is quick to interject that the Pastor has confused probabilities with possibilities. He goes on to give the Pastor an analogy, which makes the Pastor flustered, and he tries to quickly dismiss Sheldon. Sheldon is offended and vows to prove Pastor Jeff wrong. Just another instance where Sheldon goes to great lengths to prove his point, without caring about the time or place, which makes him insufferable.
3. When Sheldon nitpicked over packing

The show, Young Sheldon, is all about the shenanigans that Sheldon and his family get into, and each episode brings with it some kind of hilarious trouble. In season 1, episode 12, Sheldon’s parents, Mary and George, have a massive fight, and Mary has had enough of being with him. She, therefore, decides that she needs a break from her husband and packs her bags along with Missy and Sheldon’s so that they can go and live with Mary’s mother, Meemaw, who is right across the street. However, Sheldon being Sheldon, he makes a big fuss over the dining table when he comes to know that he will have to sleep in another room and do some packing. While the situation is tense and everyone is annoyed, Sheldon is more preoccupied about whether he should pack all of his things so that his routine is not disrupted. Moments like these make the viewers realize that Sheldon can be quite annoying at times as his ability to be emotionally sensitive is nil.
4. When Sheldon provoked Paige

One of the most visibly annoying characteristics of Sheldon in Young Sheldon is that he cannot handle competition or let anyone else be successful. Since his childhood, he has always felt that he is the best. But when another child prodigy like Paige comes into the picture, he is clueless as to how to handle this new competition and decides to berate her instead. Paige has been a recurring character in the series, and whenever she arrives, Sheldon feels insecure. In season 4, episode 4, Sheldon and Paige are forced to attend a Bible Camp, and even though both of them are not religious, they get into a battle over Biblical trivia. This is also the time when Paige is acting out because of her parents’ divorce. Sheldon decides to go below the belt and accuses Paige of being the reason her parents are separating. This is one of those times when Sheldon not just became annoying, but he also became purely evil. Using someone’s personal information to get back at them during a fight is one of the lowest things that he could do, especially when he lent a helping hand towards Paige earlier.
5. When Sheldon jeopardized Dr. Sturgis’s career

Sheldon is truly a unique individual. Not only because he is a genius in academics but also because he has no clue about how to be emotionally sensitive and ethical. While he does look up to Dr. Sturgis as his mentor, there are times when Sheldon quickly forgets all that and becomes insufferable. In season 3, episode 17 of Young Sheldon, Dr. Sturgis has written a paper, and Sheldon is quick to point out one of the calculations that the professor has done incorrectly and corrects it for him. Sheldon thinks that he will be given co-author credit for his work. However, when Dr. Sturgis replies that he will be mentioned in the footnotes, Sheldon is deeply offended. He goes so far as to threaten Dr. Sturgis with the accusation of plagiarism, which can have a heavily detrimental impact upon Dr. Sturgis’s reputation and career. This instance shows that Sheldon can become very selfish and immature. The fact is that Sheldon thinks he’s more mature than others, but he often behaves childishly himself. and even refuses to see the wrong in his actions is baffling.
6. When Sheldon did not pass the intelligence test

Everyone knows by now that Sheldon loves to gloat over the fact that he is the most genius person in the entire town and, therefore, considers everyone beneath him. However, the young boy forgets that there is not only one type of intelligence but there are multiple versions of it, and Sheldon only possesses one of them. In season 2, episode 5 of Young Sheldon, Dr. Sturgis comes up with the idea that an institution is conducting IQ tests, and Missy and Sheldon should go for it. The entire family travels to the place, and the test begins to be conducted. While Sheldon passes with flying colors in questions about academics, he is stumped when questions about emotional and situational awareness are put towards him. Missy, on the other hand, passes this portion of the test with flying colors and leaves her parents impressed with her emotional intelligence and situational awareness. Sheldon, as usual, is irritated that he cannot answer those questions and even dismisses the test as a whole. Even during the ride home, Sheldon is unable to comprehend why Missy is being treated with so much love. Just another instance where Sheldon proves that he is truly insufferable.
7. When Sheldon tried to argue with NASA

The show, Young Sheldon, has shown that Sheldon Cooper does not care about how far or how distinguished someone or something is; if he wants to set something right, he will do it by hook or by crook. In season 1, episode 6, a NASA engineer comes to Sheldon’s school and dismisses Sheldon’s ideas about VTVL technology. Sheldon is obviously irritated and tries to prove him wrong by doing the calculations himself. When he realizes that he needs a computer and his family does not have one, he becomes even more annoyed and does not realize his immaturity. Ultimately, he uses another computer and sends his results to NASA. However, when he does not get any reply, Sheldon’s father, George, decides to give his son’s idea a chance and drives down to the NASA space center so that the engineer can listen to Sheldon’s idea. The engineer mentions that while Sheldon’s theory is correct, NASA does not have the technicalities to make it a reality. Sheldon feels proud that he is ahead of his time, and this instance proves that Sheldon massively underestimates the sacrifices that his father and his family make for him just so that his whims and fancies can be entertained.
8. When Sheldon broke the fridge apart

One important factor that makes Sheldon annoying is not just his compulsion to do things a certain way and his inability to treat people with empathy but also his clear lack of concern over his family’s financial status. In Young Sheldon, it is shown that Sheldon comes from a middle-class family, and Mary and George have done a lot to give the best to their children. Sheldon actually gets the most out of the three children, and even then, he remains ungrateful. In season 2, episode 1, Sheldon is annoyed by a seemingly buzzing sound that only he can hear. He deduces that the noise is coming from the fridge and takes down the whole house so that he does not have to bear with the noise. Hilariously, Missy decides to play a prank on Sheldon and motivates him to open the fridge and rectify the issue. However, Sheldon ends up ruining the fridge, and George has to pay a hefty bill to get the appliance to begin working again. This episode is the first time that Sheldon gets a scolding from George, which results in Sheldon crying and Missy ultimately comforting him. However, the whole episode is just another instance where Sheldon proves that he is unaware of the financial troubles that his family goes through and is more concerned about making things go his way.
9. When Sheldon fought against the PE class

From the very first season of Young Sheldon, it is mentioned that Sheldon does not like any outdoor activities and instead enjoys staying inside and working on his scientific problems. Even when his mother, Mary, forces him to go outside and play, he is not interested in doing so. Therefore, when Sheldon attends school and it is time for the PE or physical education class, Sheldon tries to hilariously find ways of avoiding it. In season 1, episode 2, Sheldon is furious that he has to go to gym class and hilariously comes up with the argument that PE is all about exercising one’s muscles, and as his brain is a muscle and he exercises it regularly, he does not need to go to PE class. While the coach was not impressed, it did prove that there is no point in arguing with Sheldon because it does not take him much time to become annoying.
All in all, Young Sheldon does a brilliant job of showing the complexities of Sheldon Cooper’s character. While he is undeniably a genius with a deep passion for science, his inability to read social cues, lack of empathy, and relentless need to be right often make him insufferable to those around him—and hilarious for viewers to watch. Each of these moments not only highlights Sheldon’s quirks and flaws but also reflects the patience and love his family has for him. It’s this balance of brilliance and obliviousness that makes Sheldon such a compelling (and exasperating) character and keeps fans coming back episode after episode.
