The 90 Day Fiancé couple, Stevi and Mahdi, have hit a roadblock in the form of homesickness, and this is not the first time it has happened. The couple met online, like the majority of the couples on the show. Stevi decided to become an English tutor when she needed some extra cash.
Mahdi was her student, and he was attentive and curious. These qualities were exactly what attracted her to him. After the lessons were over, the two decided to meet in Turkey, where they spent a week together before locking down and getting engaged.
However, in the most recent 90 Day Fiancé episode, Mahdi expressed signs of homesickness as he missed his family and friends from Iran. When the couple was introduced, it was also revealed that it would be tough for Mahdi to travel back and forth from Iran to the US because of the tough geopolitical conditions between the two countries.
It is even possible that he will never be able to go back. Thus, in the most recent episode, when the couple decided to go for a coffee date, he expressed his feelings about missing his home. However, Stevi had none of it and called him out on it.
"...this thought in your mind that you always want to go back," she said in frustration.
90 Day Fiancé star Stevi calls out Mahdi for wanting to go back to Iran
Stevi and Mahdi are not new to issues in their relationship. It was just last week that he had finally met with her father. Stevi's father questioned whether 90 days was enough to get to know someone from a completely different cultural background and get married to them.
This was not a fresh question, and the 90 Day Fiancé couple might be asked the same by other people. As for Mahdi, even though he misses his family, he seems to be adjusting well in the United States, given that Iran does not have good ties with the country.
He is naturally observant about the country's culture, and their relationship is a bit different from similar bonds seen on 90 Day Fiancé, such as that of Adnan and Tigerlily. Mahdi is open and understanding, and we saw how he tried to be friends with Stevi's cat even though in his culture, it is not a good sign.
During their segment on 90 Day Fiancé episode 6 of this season, Mahdi said that he would not stay in America if he broke up with her in the future. Talking about his feelings, he said,
"When I was in Iran, if one day you didn’t want to be with me, I would still stay in the U.S., but now I don’t feel like that anymore."
This alarmed Stevi, who argued that he should not change his country for someone he is unsure about getting married to. She also started to question their future together and, in a confessional, stated,
"This is probably the first time in our whole entire relationship that I’ve ever questioned Mahdi’s motive. And for the first time in our whole entire relationship, I’m starting to question whether this is something that I want to do or not.”
She was particularly upset about Mahdi even thinking about them not working out. As for him, he just wanted support from a woman who is to be his wife shortly, but Stevi's recent remarks have left him wondering. He said,
“I expected her to be more understanding and tell me that no, it’s going to work out. The hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life was leaving my family, but I can’t even be honest with her about that. I need a supportive wife no matter how hard everything gets. And right now that’s not Stevi.”
90 Day Fiancé Season 11 episodes are released weekly on TLC at 8 PM Eastern Time on Sundays. Later, they can be streamed online via TLC Go.
