Paramount has released the highly anticipated trailer for Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2. The neo-Western drama returns to television after a long wait of two years, with the six remaining episodes of its fifth season.

The show’s lead, Kevin Costner, has said goodbye to his role as John Dutton, and will not be returning to the show. However, the trailer still showcases various scenes of the character, as the story is incomplete without the Dutton patriarch.

Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 was earlier labeled as the final installment of the show. However, new reports suggest that Paramount is in discussion to renew the series for a sixth season. For now, the trailer has teased a dark and thrilling season that could mark the perfect ending of the hit show.

Here are some key takeaways from the trailer:

1) John Dutton continues to be an integral part of the storyline

Though Kevin Costner has confirmed his exit from the show, John Dutton continues to appear in the trailer. The ranch owner opens the trailer with the dialog, “Everyone's forgotten who runs this valley. Time to remind them.”

John is then seen in various shots, likely taken when Costner was still a part of the show. By the end of the trailer, the patriarch warns his family, “This war is just beginning.”

This means while the makers would have found a way to justify John's absence from the ranch, he remains inseparable from the story and will find several mentions in the upcoming episodes.

2) Jamie and Beth are out for blood

The war for the ranch between the estranged siblings, Jamie and Beth, is going to become more intense. The trailer shows Beth talking about her family legacy, and Rip Wheeler explains how he will protect it with his life. Later, when Beth seems to get overwhelmed with the war, Rip encourages her to keep moving on.

Meanwhile, she believes that Jamie is going to ruin the family’s name. On the other hand, Jamie has his struggles to cope with as his closest ally, Sarah, slaps him, saying. “I took all the risk and I took it for you.”

At the same time, there is considerable action taking place, with Beth smashing Sarah into a table, Rip setting a car on fire, and someone getting pushed off a cliff. This hints that the family war might turn ugly and there will be bloodshed.

3) Kayce Dutton and Thomas Rainwater make a pact

Another highlight is Kayce and Chief Thomas Rainwater making a blood oath to stand by each other as brothers. “This knife wears my blood,” Rainwater says, slitting his palm and proclaiming, “We are brothers now.” The bond will certainly have an impact on the struggle for the ranch’s control.
