Finally, the day is here when Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone, a tale of cowboys, ends. With enough drama on-screen and off-screen, a long hiatus and the lead Kevin Costner leaving the show mid-season, Sheridan gave a satisfying finale to his popular Neo-western show.
The season finale saw the 1883 prophecy being fulfilled and the Duttons parting ways with their ranch after trying every hook and crook to save it. However, as one story ended, the finale also opened the possibility for a spin-off with the next generation of cowboys, focusing on Rip and Beth's story.
Here is everything that went down in the Yellowstone Season 5 finale.

The Dutton Ranch finally got a befitting buyer in the Yellowstone Season 5 finale
The main question and conflict of the finale were finally resolved after Kayce sold the Dutton Ranch to Thomas Rainwater for $1.25 per acre. While seeing the Duttons lose their ranch was not easy, at least it was sent on their terms.
Rainwater assured Kayce that the Duttons would always have a home on this ranch because this is their family's legacy, and their ancestors are buried here.
Kayce had two conditions- that the Duttons would have the east camp and could live there, and Rainwater could not do any activities to develop the ranch or sell it. While the Yellowstone Season 5 finale saw the Duttons losing their ranch, it was not very bleak.
They sold the ranch on their terms, and as they wanted, the ranch would remain the rural symbol of the legacy and family they wanted to uphold. No motorized vehicle will be allowed inside the premises, except on horses or on foot. With the Duttons' visions realized in the end, the ranch was sold to Rainwater.
The Duttons buried John in the Yellowstone Season 5 finale
The episode opened with Beth showing her husband their new home, which was 2 hours away from the proposed airport. She then received a call from the Funeral Home telling her that her father was ready for burial. She expressed to Rip that she does not want to have a formal service for her father, bury him with Rip, Kayce and the other cowboys.
And so it was arranged. After buying the Dutton ranch and being a part of the family now, Rainwater embraced John's body, telling him that he would always have a home there.
Kayce, Rip, and Beth tell their goodbyes to John one last time, and his body is laid to rest alongside his wife, Evelyn, and his eldest child, Lee.
While Kayce's last words to his father were, 'I forgive him,' Beth's were, ' I will avenge you.' After the burial, she left with bear spray and a knife in hand to find Jamie with Rip behind her.
The final showdown between Beth and Jamie in Yellowstone Season 5 finale
Beth attacked Jamie at his home, and he nearly got the upper hand when she told him that they had sold the ranch. Rip arrived and held Jamie up while Beth stabbed him multiple times in the chest with a knife, finally killing him. With this, Jamie died in the Season 5 finale.
But Beth did not come here without a plan. After killing Jamie, she called 911 to frame him and gave all the information about who Sarah paid to kill John, telling the detective that it was Jamie who ordered it.
While the police filed a complaint against Jamie for assault and domestic violence, thinking he was alive, Rip and Lloyd tossed his body at the train station, joining the pile of other Dutton enemies.
Did the Yellowstone Season 5 finale set up a potential Beth-Rip spin-off?
Yellowstone Season 5 finale showed the 1883 prophecy coming to fruition with the Duttons keeping the ranch for seven generations, for 141 years, before it returned to the Native people. And that is exactly what happened in the finale.
As told above, Beth bought a property 40 miles outside of Montana, away from the tourists and the humdrum of modern living, where Rip could continue being a cowboy.
This could be the setting of their potential spin-off, which will continue the Yellowstone legacy. As was hinted before, Rip is the definition of a modern cowboy who will tell a sustainable way for a cowboy in a modern age. This could very well be the beginning of their legacy.
And with this, Yellowstone, as we know it, came to a satisfying end.
