In the previous episode, Give The World Away, the Dutton family continued to fight to save their ranch. The episode began with a heartfelt memorial following the deaths of John Dutton and ranch hand Colby.
Meanwhile, Beth worked to raise funds for the ranch by auctioning off nearly everything, including horses and cattle, leaving the Duttons with $30 million. However, this could sustain the ranch for only a year.
Rip offered long-time ranch hand Lloyd a permanent position at the ranch, while other cowboys prepared to leave, including Teeter. Kayce, too, developed a bold plan to save the ranch. He came up with the example of selling a $300,000 car for $1 to lower taxes.
Beth eventually realized that Kayce meant they should find someone willing to buy the ranch for a minimal price. Kayce suggested they could sell the land to Chief Thomas Rainwater. This could return the land to its original stewards.
