It looks like Taylor Sheridan's 'Apocalypse of Change' is finally heading in Yellowstone as the show reaches its climax.

Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 11 shows the importance of flashbacks

Yellowstone could not compromise its plotline for the flashbacks when they were unimportant. It finally reveals the significance of these flashbacks in a dramatic way that highlights the disruption John's death caused for the Duttons.

Beth's drive home is cinematically juxtaposed with John's death when the last fatal shot was fired, and she senses that something is wrong. She also conveys her fears to Rip. Elsewhere, Kayce also awakens suddenly, knowing that something is wrong.

While Beth and Kayce sense John's death, Jamie is oblivious and doesn't sense anything, which could foreshadow Beth and Jamie's war in the upcoming episodes.

These flashbacks also highlight Dutton's happy life before John's tragedy. While Beth and Rip were happy and thinking about moving to Texas, Monica also moved into her house in Yellowstone. They set the stage for the final war between Beth and Jamie.

Kayce investigates John's murder in Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 11

Kayce goes to the coroner's office to investigate John's body and look for clues. They find wounds on his toes, hinting that his body was dragged along the floor. Bruises on the back of his legs prove that he was forcibly restrained.

Kayce asks the coroner to handle John's body as a possible homicide and she lists his cause of death as 'undetermined' so that Kayce could reopen his case.

They also investigate the murder weapon, which is a service pistol from the Livestock Office. He believes that his adoptive brother Jamie paid for people to steal it and goes to his house to accuse him. After a heated argument between the brothers, Jamie denies doing any such thing.

The future of the Dutton Ranch is uncertain in Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 11

Gareth Williams' Steve is hired as Montana's new governor, and he holds his first meeting to publicly announce that he will 'save' the future of the Dutton ranch from evil corporations.

He also asks Jamie to clear his name from his father's ongoing business, which means he cannot claim his father's will while the investigation continues. Speaking of investigation, Jamie and Sarah are scared when the case re-opens by Kace.

They also argue over this and slap each other. Sarah leaves the house when she is met by assassins, who pose as her neighbors looking for directions. They point a gun at her and fatally shoot her; Jamie listens to everything over the phone.

With Sarah dead by nameless hitmen, the mystery of Yellowstone gets more intriguing. The final Jamie vs. Beth battle is bound to happen in the remaining episodes.
