The third season of Yellowjackets recently came to a close on Showtime. Apart from tying up loose ends and wrapping several storylines, the finale of Yellowjackets Season 3 provided answers to the show's longest-running mysteries, one of them being the identity of the infamous Pit Girl.

Here is a breakdown of some memorable highlights from Season 3's finale.

What happened on Yellowjackets Season 3 finale?

The death of Van loomed large throughout Season 3. In the finale, Taissa finally bids farewell to Van's memory, vowing to avenge his death despite the consequences. She pins the blame for Van and Natalie's deaths on Shauna, considering her to be directly responsible.

Moving on, the finale further presented Shauna's teen self as being crowned as the Antler Queen. Having long pushed that part of herself into the shadows, Shauna finally realizes that she isn't what others perceive her to be. Confronting herself, Shauna eventually ends up reconciling who she truly is, embarking on a journey to reclaim the honor of being the Antler Queen along with the darkness she had once denied.

The most important highlight of the final episode has undoubtedly been the unmasking of Pit Girl's true identity. As it turns out, Mari is the Pit Girl, and the revelation comes after a winding journey on the part of Shauna and Tai to decipher the mystery of her identity.

Sophia Nélisse opens up about the finale of Yellowjackets season 3

In an interview with Gold Derby published on April 11, actress Sophia Nelisse, who plays the role of Shauna, spoke at length about the final episode and her character's journey on the show. When asked about how things fared in the closing episode, Nelisse remarked:

"I remember reading it and being like, "This is so sick!" We were so excited, and I really wish that all of the cast could watch the finale together because it's such an important moment for us. When it ends with Natalie on the mountain, I was screaming out loud. We weren't there when she was shooting that scene, but I knew exactly how she was going to act it out, and I was like, "This is going to leave people with their jaws just dropped on the floor."

She was then asked about Shauna's character arc, to which she replied:

"It's been really fun. I felt very lucky being able to explore this character in all of its facets and different colors. I feel like in the first season she was really under Jackie's (Ella Purnell) wing and sort of in Jackie's shadow. In the second season, we see Shauna kind of step into her own, but she's just overcome by so much grief and loss that we see her more in a very vulnerable state. Now, to see her do this 180 has been so fun and so empowering and exciting as an actor. I'm able to showcase something completely different."

All episodes of Yellowjackets are available for streaming exclusively on Showtime and Paramount+.
