It’s been almost two years since the first season of XO, Kitty dropped on Netflix, and fans have been eagerly waiting for more. In this season, Kitty returns to the Korean Independent School of Seoul, where she navigates friendships, romances, and deepens her understanding of her family’s history.

The show is all about Kitty, her life in Korea, and her relationships with new friends and old ones. But where is her sister, Lara Jean?

In XO, Kitty, Peter tells Kitty that Lara Jean is still in college, wrapping up her final year at New York University (NYU). This little update in the show left fans asking questions, especially considering how much they loved Lara Jean in To All The Boys.

But why couldn’t Lara Jean visit her sister in Korea? The answer is simple: it just wouldn’t have made sense in the storyline.

The timeline confusion

One of the biggest reasons Lara Jean isn’t in XO, Kitty is the timeline mismatch between the shows. XO, Kitty happens about four years after Kitty meets Dae. That meeting happens just before Lara Jean and Peter start their final year of high school, meaning they are already in their final year of college during the events of XO, Kitty.

This time gap creates confusion about where the characters from To All The Boys are. While we’re enjoying Kitty’s adventures in Seoul, Lara Jean and Peter are likely busy with their own college lives.

While Lara Jean couldn’t visit, her older sister, Margot, had a much better chance. Margot might have more flexibility with her schedule and resources. After all, she's not in college, which gives her the freedom to visit Kitty if she wanted to.

But there’s more to consider. Margot may also have her own commitments, and we don’t see her in the show either. Still, it’s a possibility that Margot could have made the trip if it was a part of the plot.

Peter's appearance

Peter does make an appearance towards the end of XO, Kitty Season 2. But he’s not there just to visit his girlfriend's sister. Peter is in South Korea because his Stanford lacrosse team is playing in a big game in Seoul. So his trip fits within the story.

This is where reality and fiction collide, Peter’s visit makes sense because he has a reason to be there, unlike Lara Jean, who doesn’t have that luxury.

One thing XO, Kitty does well is staying true to what’s realistic for its characters. The creators didn’t force Lara Jean into a storyline that wouldn’t make sense. Instead of writing in a cameo just for the sake of it, they stayed true to the plot and kept things grounded.

Sometimes, less is more, and making sure the storylines stay believable is crucial.

Even though fans miss Lara Jean, her absence doesn’t detract from the overall XO, Kitty experience. The show still thrives on Kitty’s journey, her friendships, and the new relationships she’s forming.

Yes, Lara Jean is loved, but XO, Kitty has its own magic, and Kitty’s story is worth following. So, instead of wondering where Lara Jean is, it’s time to focus on what Kitty is up to next.

The show’s creators have yet to comment on whether Lara Jean will appear in future seasons, but it’s clear that the focus for now is on Kitty’s growth.

While season 2 of XO, Kitty didn’t feature Lara Jean, there’s always the chance that she could show up in future seasons. With Kitty’s story continuing, and potential visits from family, we might get to see Lara Jean at some point.

But for now, it seems like we’ll have to enjoy the story from Kitty’s point of view.
