Release and streaming details of Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light Episode 6 (finale)

Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light finale, titled Light, will premiere in the US on PBS Masterpiece on April 27, 2025, at 9 pm ET/PT. The episode initially premiered in the UK on BBC One in December 2024. The episode will also be available to stream on PBS Passport till May 2025.

According to IMDB, the official synopsis of the finale reads as follows:

Cromwell is stripped of his titles and brought to the Tower of London on a charge of treason. He has no friends to speak for him but plenty of enemies among his prosecutors.

Since Wolf Hall is a historical drama, there is no suspense about how the show will end and what will become of Thomas Cromwell. The penultimate episode already established the incidents leading to Cromwell's execution, from Henry's distaste for his new wife to Gardiner stripping Cromwell of all his titles; the advisor's end is near.

The finale will witness the historic moment of Cromwell's execution, his final moments leading to it, his final address to the king, and Henry's fourth marriage to Catherine Howard.

What happened in Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light Episode 5?

Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light Episode 5 hinted at Cromwell's tragic fate, which lies in the finale. But before that, he tries his best to secure a union between King Henry and Anne of Cleves, as a German alliance would strengthen England against its enemies.

Seeing that a union with the Germans would help him fight against France and the Holy Roman Empire, Henry asks Cromwell to secure a match for his daughter Mary with Anne's cousin, the Duke of Bavaria.

Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light Episode 5 also showed Cromwell's escalating enemies in France, the Holy Roman Empire, and the Duke of Norfolk. While Cromwell asks Henry not to pay heed to the rumors surrounding him, the king remembers his 10 years of service and the moments they shared during that.

Henry expresses his desire not to marry Anne because he thinks she is not beautiful and already has a marriage contract. However, with the growing political tensions, the two are finally married in a ceremony. Elsewhere, the king’s ambassador successfully drove a wedge between France and the Holy Roman Empire, thus eliminating England's threat.

The king promotes Cromwell to an earl, but the final moments of the episode saw Stephen Gardiner, another of his enemies, strip him of all his titles.
