What happened in Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light Episode 4?
In the previous episode, 'Jenneke,' Thomas Cromwell discovered he had a grown daughter named Jenneke, whom he never knew existed. She came from Antwerp after hearing that her father’s life might be in danger.
Cromwell offered Jenneke a future in England and even dreamed of leaving court to live peacefully with her and his family. But Jenneke chose to return to Antwerp, and Cromwell stayed behind.
Meanwhile, Queen Jane Seymour gave birth to a son, giving King Henry VIII a long-awaited male heir. The court celebrated but the joy didn't last long as Jane died shortly after her son’s christening.
Even though the king was mourning, his council pushed him to remarry to protect the future of the throne. Meanwhile, England’s enemies, France, and the Holy Roman Empire formed a peace deal.
Cromwell then got into action and went after rivals like Reginald Pole to defend the king’s rule. However, his power began to slip with the rise of his enemies like Gardiner.
