A lot happened in the latest episode of the popular historical drama. Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light Episode 2, titled Obedience, dealt with the aftermath of the previous episode, where the viewers saw Mary finally unite with Jane Seymour and King Henry VIII, all thanks to the reliable advisor Thomas Cromwell.

Episode 2 began with King Henry VIII worrying about his daughter Mary and neice Meg Douglas's marriage. Henry entrusted Cromwell to find their potential suitors.

However, Cromwell soon realised that Meg was having a secret affair with a Lesser, Thomas Howard(the younger stepbrother of the Duke of Norfolk), and exchanged love letters undersigned as Tom Truth. Even though Cromwell tried to save Meg from the King's wrath and the embarrassment, Meg kept on implying that they had been married.

This angered the King, who was sure of the Howards' evil political power at play. Meanwhile, Reginald Pole, the King's cousin, has been rallying support for overthrowing King Henry VIII and restoring the Catholic rule. When Henry came to know how the Pope had taken Reginald to ally with France, he grew furious. He ordered Cromwell to assassinate Reginald Pole.

Meanwhile, Cromwell visited the Shaftesbury Abbey to invigilate the destruction of the monasteries. However, his visit was not limited to the invigilation; he met Dorothea, the illegitimate daughter of Cardinal Wolsey, who was previously sent to the abbey for her safety.

When Dorothea met him, she was quite furious at him, she blamed him for framing Wolsey as a traitor. She even returned the gifts that Cromwell bought for her and refused further assistance.

This shattered Cromwell, and he began to weep when he was consoled by Lord Chancellor Richard Riche and his trusted servant, Christopher.
