Wizards of Waverly Place is back with its spin-off, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place. The series will see the return of Selena Gomez and David Henrie from the original series.
The on-screen sibling duo will also serve as the executive producers of the series. The episodes of the sequel series will be directed by Disney's very own Raven-Symone (That's So Raven, Raven's Home) and Danielle Fishel (Boy Meets World, Girl Meets World).
The original series, Wizards of Waverly Place ran from 2007 to 2012. The Emmy award-winning series also inspired a film, Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie, and a television special in 2013 called The Wizards Return: Alex vs. Alex.
The plot of the original series was about the Russo family consisting of parents, Jerry and Theresa Russo, and three siblings Justin Russo, Alex Russo, and Max Russo. Set in New York, the Russo family owns a restaurant inside of which there is a hidden lair where the Russo siblings learn magic from their father.
The siblings train in magic under their father for the big wizarding competition which decides who gets to keep their powers and be the family wizard. The series sees the family go through many adventures in the mortal and wizarding world.
When will Wizards Beyond Waverly Place release?
The series will drop its first two episodes together on Disney Channel on October 29, 2024, at 8 pm ET/PT.
For those who have a subscription to Disney+, the first eight episodes will be available on the streaming platform on October 30, 2024, including a Halloween-themed episode. From November 8, 2024, the series will release two episodes weekly.
What to expect from the plot of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place?
Wizards Beyond Waverly Place will bring back Alex and Justin who are all grown up now. Audiences can expect to see a lot more of Justin than Alex. In the show, Justin has given up his powers and the world of wizardry to live a mortal life with his wife and two sons.
In the aftermath of an incident at WizTech, Alex visits Justin and introduces him to Billie who has the fate of the world in her hands. Alex requests Justin to pick up his wand once again and take Billie under his wing as she is a powerful young wizard.
Billie who is quite similar to Alex puts Justin in a position where he has to decide if he wants to leave the world of magic forever or reconnect with his past to protect the future of the Wizard World.
Who is part of the cast of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place?
The cast of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place will see the return of Selena Gomez as Alex Russo and David Henrie as Justin Russo from the original series. David Henrie will be a series regular while Selena Gomez will make guest appearances.
Starring in guest roles, the series will also see the return of original series cast members, Jake T. Austin as the youngest of the Russo siblings, Max Russo, David DeLuise as Jerry Russo, and Maria Canals-Barrera as Theresa Russo, the Russo parents.
The sequel series will also welcome new cast members in leading roles with Janice LeAnn Brown as Billie.
New cast members will also include Taylor Cora as Billie's best friend, Alkaio Thiele as Justin's older son Roman Russo, Max Matenko as Justin's younger son Milo Russo, and Mimi Gianopulos as Justin's wife, Giada.
