Pixar’s first-ever original series, Win or Lose, has just come to an end with its debut season on Disney+, leaving fans wanting more. Fans of the series are currently wondering if there will be a Season 2 for the show.
The final episodes, which premiered on March 12, gave out a conclusion to its characters, and it is something that fans loved. However, regardless of the series gaining love, will there be a Season 2 to Win or Lose Season 2?
Unluckily, signs point towards the fact the series may not return for its second season due to both Pixar and Disney wanting to shift their focus, moving away from long-form content on Disney+ in favor of producing more feature films.
While no official cancellation news has come forward, the probabilities of Win or Lose getting a second season seem non-existent at the very moment. Take a look at everything we know so far:
Pixar’s shift away from streaming shows
Win or Lose acted as a fresh, character-driven animated show that told the story of a softball team prepping themselves up for their big game, with each episode being highlighted by a different perspective. Regardless of its new and fresh layout, its future for getting a second Season remains fairly unknown due to a substantial change in the way Pixar and Disney plan to approach their future content.
In the beginning of March, alleged reports appeared stating that Walt Disney Animation Studios as a company would no longer bring out original long-form content (series/shows) for Disney+, which marked a noteworthy change in the company.
Around the same time as the reports, Pixar too established that it, too, would stop producing content for a series format for Disney+ after Win or Lose and Dream Productions.
This strategy falls in line with Disney’s bigger plan of giving priority to films and theatrical releases over series/shows.
With the recent cancellation of Tiana the animated series, a second Season of the series seems more and more unlikely to happen.
What does this mean for Win or Lose Season 2
While Disney and Pixar have not put out an official confirmation for Win or Lose being cancelled after Season 1, all signs point towards that direction.
The above Reddit thread embedded shows just how much fans wish for the show to not be cancelled. However, user eagc7 in particular points out:
“Pixar has indicated they are done with Disney+ shows for the time being after this season so they can focus on movies and shorts.”
Regardless of the doubt about if fans will be getting a Season 2 or not, Season one of the show stays on to be a notable achievement for Pixar and Disney. Its distinctive way of approaching the content with jumping through various perspectives for a single event sets it apart from other animated series.
For the moment, a Win or Lose Season 2 has not been confirmed, and with Pixar’s recent change with its priorities, the chances of the show getting renewed for a second season seem less likely.
While the series struck a chord with its viewers and also brought in a fresh new format, Disney+ is straying away from producing any more long-form animated content.
However, fans can still watch all of the Season 1 episodes on Disney+ while waiting to see if Pixar ever gets out an announcement for the renewal of a Season 2.
