The special agent Will Trent is back in ABC's acclaimed Will Trent Season 3, showcasing his crime-solving skills at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI). What's unique about the crime drama is that the makers have ensured to portray the agent's world the way it's described in Karin Slaughter's book series.
The show is set and filmed in Atlanta, Georgia, where Trent cracks down on complex cases. The show also highlights Trent's tough childhood as he grew up in the city's foster care system, and suffered trauma and abandonment.
Now that he's transformed into a skilled and well-known agent, Trent aims to ensure others don't feel the same. However, the drama also sheds light on other key characters, and as seen in Season 3 Episode 5, the focus shifts to Faith Mitchell.
She isn't just a colleague to Trent, but also a close friend. In the latest episode, Faith's strained relationship with her mother Evelyn Mitchell takes center stage, followed by the unfolding of a puzzling criminal plot.

Will Trent Season 3 Episode 5 recap: Faith's estranged mother shows up
As mentioned above, Faith Mitchell's mother Evelyn Mitchell returns to the town, and Faith isn't happy to see her. When asked about her unexpected visit, Evelyn opened up about her recent injury and said she needed supervision due to a possible blood clot.
Since her son Zeke is out of town, Evelyn decides to stay at Faith's condo for a couple of weeks. She had previously served at the Atlanta Police Department (APD) and often behaves like a police captain who's mostly suspicious of people around her.
When she calls Faith and informs her about a suspicious neighbor, the mother-daughter ends up in a heated argument. While Faith blames Evelyn for pushing her into law enforcement, Evelyn brings up Faith's teenage pregnancy.
Since they've had several issues in the past, Evelyn and Faith Mitchell remain odd. But, not for long as Evelyn suddenly goes missing.

Evelyn gets abducted in Will Trent Season 3 Episode 5
Later in the episode, Evelyn witnesses a real crime—an assault in a neighboring apartment. She immediately called 911, and when Faith returned home, Evelyn was nowhere to be found.
Following Evelyn's disappearance, Faith along with the GBI and APD begins the quest to find her. Faith suspects that her mother's abduction is linked to Mike Cole, a man recently found dead in her building. Additionally, Mike's brother claimed it wasn't a suicide but murder.
As Will Trent also steps into the case, he and Faith learn about Mike's relationship with his building manager Juanita Cartwright. Suspiciously, Juanita didn't inform the investigators about her secret relationship with Mike and is now missing.
The abduction case becomes even more complicated Faith learns that it was Juanita whom Evelyn saw being assaulted. As the case unfolds, it's revealed that Mike, Juanita, and two others—Scottie and Grant were involved in stealing a rare Mioni coin.
Turns out, Juanita never loved Mike and killed him for the artifact. She kept the coin and when Scottie and Grant asked for their share, Juanita lied to them as well. She claimed that it was still at Mike's old apartment, which is now Faith Mitchell's new condo.

Evelyn had been spying on the thieves in Will Trent Season 3
As Will Trent Season 3 Episode 5 progresses, we see Scottie and Grant breaking into Faith Mitchell's new home. As they try searching for the coin, they learn that it's a police officer's house, and might end in trouble.
At the same time, Evelyn had been spying on them, and just before being abducted by the two, she scribbled the word "Mioni" to help her daughter with a clue. Faith and Trent went to an antique store known for buying stolen artifacts.
The two pressured the store's owner and learn about Scottie's whereabouts. Soon after finding Scottie, they learn about the location where Evelyn is kept. The team arrives at the warehouse, and Faith saves her mother from being strangled to death.
As for Juanita, she managed to escape and was about to sell the coin at the store. Little did she know her crime had been exposed and ends up arrested for the murder of Mike Cole.
Faith and Evelyn reconcile in Will Trent Season 3 episode
As the Will Trent episode reaches its end, Faith reconciles with her mother. Evelyn admits she wasn’t mad about Faith’s teenage pregnancy, but for being less approachable as a mother. Faith also remembers the time when her mother was incredibly supportive. The two then spend quality time as a newly reconciled mother-daughter duo.
