Amanda Wagner and her mother, Evelyn Mitchell, embark on a tranquil getaway to a luxury resort to rest for sometime away from the hustle. However, their retreat takes a dark turn when a shocking murder is discovered at the resort. This fleshes out the dynamic relationship they have. They are challenged to deal with the immediate danger as well as their past traumas.

On the other hand, Angie is dealing with the health problems of someone close in the family. Sobriety and her own traumatic childhood also add to her struggles. For Angie, the grief is complicated — it's not just the loss of a parent, but the loss of someone she’s simultaneously hated, mourned, and felt tethered to through pain. We only see her mother's side in flashbacks, who exploited her from the age of five to fulfill her personal needs.

When executive producers Liz Heldens and Daniel Thomsen spoke about Angie’s possible relapse, they hinted that this time, they are delicately approaching her story this season. At the start of Season 3, Heldens made it clear that while the weight of Crystal’s death and the implosion of her relationship with Will would affect Angie, those events alone wouldn’t necessarily push her back into addiction.
