Taylor Kitsch, who portrayed the celebrated role of Tim Riggins in Friday Night Lights, shared that he may appear briefly in the reboot of the show. NBC’s hit drama series Friday Night Lights is currently in development with streaming platform Peacock.

The original series follows the story of the people of a fictional town called Dillon in Texas and their famed high school football team, the Dillon Panthers. From challenges on the sports field to their personal lives, the show tackles the drama of small-town life. The show aired on NBC from 2006 to 2011.

In Friday Night Lights, Tim Riggins is an integral part of the team despite his rebellious ways, making him a fan favorite. While speaking about reprising his role in the reboot, Kitsch told People,

“If you wanted to put me as a visiting coach with two lines, I probably would do that, just for fun… I think that would be the most I would do, because I love the way we left it."

Will Taylor Kitsch return as Tim Riggins in the Friday Night Lights reboot?

Taylor Kitsch said that he has been constantly asked about his return ever since the news of the reboot was announced. Despite the buzz, he confirmed that he will not take on a full-time role in the reboot.

He spoke about it on Sirius X M's The Spotlight With Jessica Shaw. He said,

"I've been asked and we'll leave it at that… I'm always flattered. Never say never, but I would come in and do something that maybe for an episode or something. But I don't wanna go and do the whole thing. I'd go and have fun, but I don't wanna lead an FNL reboot or anything. I love the continuous challenging roles and to keep pushing it."

He continued,

"I think if you saw me as someone else, you'd be like, 'That's Riggins…I would maybe play an opposing team's coach or something and be on screen for like eight seconds. I would do that."

What do we know about Friday Night Lights Reboot?

In December 2024, NBC announced that a Friday Night Lights reboot is in the works. It is being developed at Universal Television and will be available on the streaming platform Peacock.

Showrunner and executive producer Jason Katims, along with Peter Berg and Brian Grazer from the original series, will return for the reboot.

While the original show featured a stellar cast, including Kyle Chandler, Connie Britton, Minka Kelly, Scott Porter, Gaius Charles, and Jesse Plemons, it is not yet known if anyone will reprise their roles. A new cast is expected to take over in the reboot with a fresh storyline.

“I wish them all the best… I hope they create some characters that people f---ing fall for, just like we did.”

Friday Night Lights is available on Prime Video.
