The Wheel of Time Season 3 has come to an end after eight action-packed episodes. The acclaimed Prime Video series is an adaptation of Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson’s novels and is counted among the most popular fantasy dramas on television.

Set in a magical land, the show revolves around Rand al'Thor, a dragon reborn who is destined to either save the world from an evil force called the Dark One or destroy it once and for all.

Audiences are now wondering if and when The Wheel of Time will return with Season 4. While Prime Video has not yet announced the renewal of the series, the cast and crew have expressed their hope about continuing the story.

The Wheel of Time Season 4: Renewal status

The Wheel of Time has not been renewed for a fourth season as of now. This is quite unusual for the hit show, as the previous seasons were given early renewals by Prime Video.

The second season was confirmed ahead of the series premiere, and the third installment was announced almost a year before the sophomore chapter’s release. However, audiences still need not worry as Prime Video might be analyzing the viewership numbers of the third season to decide the future of the series.

The Wheel of Time is an expensive project, with each episode costing around $10 million. Hence, the streaming platform might take a few days or weeks to determine the fourth season’s fate.

What works in favor of the series is that it continues to attract viewers, and garners good ratings consistently. From the story’s point of view as well, there is a lot to cover as the novel series comprises 14 books, out of which only five have been adapted for television so far.

Meanwhile, the cast and crew have already expressed their interest in continuing to work on the show. In an interview with TechRadar, series stars Josha Stradowski and Daniel Henney talked about the renewal chances. Stradowski, who stars as Rand al'Thor, said:

“We’re confident that a fourth season will be greenlit.”

Henney, who plays al'Lan Mandragoran, added:

“We're just hopeful and have all of our fingers crossed. Season 3 is something we're incredibly proud of. Watching it back, I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. I'm sure Josha will agree that this is The Wheel of Time we set out to make.”

Showrunner Rafe Judkins echoed similar thoughts in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter and said he wanted to adapt the entire novel series into the television show:

“The books get better as they go and the show is getting better as it goes. I think we can continue that arc if we’re allowed to continue... I think it’s important for television. It’s what we do best, and so we should be finishing these stories.”

However, the decision ultimately lies with Prime Video, and we need to wait for an official announcement from the streamer.

The Wheel of Time Season 4: Potential release date and storyline

The show has so far followed a biennial schedule, releasing new seasons in 2021, 2023, and 2025. If the same trend continues, and if the show is renewed in the upcoming days, The Wheel of Time Season 4 could premiere in 2027.

The show has so far covered the first five books from the novel series. Hence, the next season could be based on the subsequent two novels: Lord of Chaos (1994) and A Crown of Swords (1996).

In Lord of Chaos, the Dark One rises in power, and Rand finds support from Mazrim Taim. In A Crown of Swords, Rand gets ready to strike the Forsaken Sammael. These two plot points could form the potential storyline of the fourth season.

The Wheel of Time Season 4: Cast members

While the cast has not been officially announced yet, the main members are expected to reprise their roles in The Wheel of Time Season 4, should it be greenlit. These include Josha Stradowski as Rand al'Thor, Rosamund Pike as Moiraine Damodred, Daniel Henney as al'Lan Mandragoran, Madeleine Madden as Egwene al'Vere, and Zoë Robins as Nynaeve al'Meara.

The cast would also include Marcus Rutherford as Perrin Aybara, Dónal Finn as Mat Cauthon, Priyanka Bose as Alanna Mosvani, Kate Fleetwood as Liandrin Guirale, Sophie Okonedo as Siuan Sanche, Hammed Animashaun as Loial, and Kae Alexander as Min Farshaw. More details about the cast will be revealed one the show is renewed.
