About St. Denis Medical

St. Denis Medical is a workplace comedy. The show is a mockumentary-style sitcom, similar in tone to The Office and Parks and Recreation.

It takes place in a struggling hospital in Oregon. The staff, though underpaid and often overworked, are deeply committed to their work. Their daily experiences bring a mix of awkward situations and touching realizations, offering both humor and insight into real-life challenges in healthcare.

The cast features Joyce, played by Wendi McLendon-Covey. She’s the hospital’s executive director, known for her strong opinions and over-the-top management style. At the core of the hospital is Alex, a caring head nurse played by Allison Tolman.

David Alan Grier plays Dr. Ron, the wise and often grumpy emergency room doctor. Other key characters include Dr. Bruce (played by Josh Lawson), Serena (played by Kahyun Kim), Matt (played by Mekki Leeper), and Val (played by Kaliko Kauahi).

The first season of St. Denis Medical premiered on November 12, 2024, and wrapped up on March 11, 2025. The season had a total of 18 episodes, ending with the finale, titled This Place Is Our Everything, which left space for several storylines.

In the last episode, Joyce was surprised by a $10 million donation, leaving her excited yet pressured to manage it wisely. Nurse Alex battled burnout while Serena began forming deeper bonds at the hospital, especially with Matt, who was still adapting to the fast-paced environment.

Meanwhile, tension rose between Dr. Ron and Dr. Bruce due to their conflicting leadership techniques in the ER. The episode concluded with the staff united, yet clearly on the brink of major personal and professional changes.

NBC hasn’t confirmed a release date for St. Denis Medical Season 2. Filming is scheduled to begin in Los Angeles at the end of September 2025. Hence, St. Denis Medical could return in late 2025 or early 2026. Most of the original cast is expected to return, and the new season will likely continue balancing lighthearted comedy with medical emergencies and personal life challenges.

The next season will likely pick up right where season one left off. The team will continue to adjust to the donation’s impact. It may improve the hospital or create more problems. We may also see more romantic plotlines, especially between Serena and Matt, whose chemistry was one of the season’s highlights. Dr. Ron’s future at the hospital might also be explored further, especially with hints at retirement.

Until Season 2 arrives, viewers can catch up on all episodes of St. Denis Medical on Peacock. St. Denis Medical Season 2 will air on NBC when it arrives and will be available to stream on Peacock.
