With the global phenomenon of Squid Game captivating audiences worldwide, fans are eagerly waiting for the final chapter to arrive. While the anticipation is high, it might be tough to bid farewell to the critically acclaimed survival thriller series.

Squid Game Season 1 hit Netflix in 2021 and topped the chart for the non-English TV series. After almost three years of wait, Season 2 was released last year in December and has become the streamer most viewed premiere, breaking the previous record held by another beloved series Wednesday.

Last year, the show's creator Hwang Dong-hyuk wrote a letter to fans, announcing the release date for Season 2 and confirming the final season. Dong Kyuk wrote:

"The fierce clash between [Gi-hun and Front Man’s] two worlds will continue into the series finale with Season 3, which will be brought to you next year."

The creator penned and filmed the last two seasons sequentially, aiming to conclude the series smoothly and avoid making fans wait for another three years. So, now that you know that the third chapter is confirmed, continue reading to know what's in store for the finale and the remaining players.

As mentioned above, Season 3 is confirmed to arrive in 2025, but no exact release date has been shared by the streamer. All we know is that it will arrive either in the summer or fall.

However, Netflix Korea mistakenly shared the launch date as June 26, 2025, in a teaser and immediately deleted the post. But eagle-eyed fans didn't miss out on noting the detail and shared it online, notably on social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and Facebook.

After the dramatic Season 2 finale, the final chapter will begin right after that. Gi-hun initiated a rebellion, but the Front Man didn't let him win and even punished him by killing his best friend. Most of the players who joined the fight met a tragic end, but there are still many in the main room, who didn't participate and have made it out alive.

Squid Game Season 3 will have more new deadly games until the last round. Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk teased in an interview with Variety:

"At this point, anything I might say is going to be a spoiler, so I want to be cautious. But as for the storyline of the third season, Gi-hun having lost everything, including his best friend, and all of his attempts going to failure, it’s now, what is he going to be like?..."

He added:

"And so you’re going to meet our character Gi-hun at a very critical crossroads as we begin the third season. Gi-hun will not be the man he was in Season 2."

The Season 2 finale cliffhanger has fans worried about Gi-hun's fate, as he's determined to dismantle the game but the Front Man doesn't seem to have stopped either. There are multiple possibilities and theories among fans like Gi-hun eventually dying to save a player or Front Man joining him and together they find a solution.

The fates of each character currently remain uncertain, and we'll have to wait for the series finale to come out.

Who will return in Squid Game Season 3?

As for the cast, each surviving member is expected to return, as the deadly games are waiting for them. As seen in Squid Game Season 2 Episode 7 "Friend or Foe" Gi-hun asked the players to come forward if they wished to join the rebellion, and most of them including Player 333, Player 222, and Player 149, her son, and others preferred staying inside the main room.

However, one standout character who might not return is Thanos ([Player 230) as Myung-gi (Player 333) injured his throat with a fork, causing a fatal outcome. Additionally, Gi-hun and a few of his allies: Dae Ho (Player 388), and Hyun-ju (Player 120) also survived the rebellion and will be seen in Season 3.

Not to forget that the iconic giant doll Young Hee's boyfriend Cheol-su is also making his way to Squid Game Season 3, as the stakes have never been this high. The second giant doll is shown in the credit scene, and now fans are super excited to meet him.

As seen in the credit scene, Cheol-su has joined Young-hee as a key figure in the game, and it also features the red light switching off as the green light is switched on. This means that the two giant dolls are set for another deadly game, and the players must prepare themselves to risk their lives once again if the majority votes for an "O" which means to continue, whereas an "X" means to stop the game.
