Paradise season 2 has already been confirmed by Hulu, thanks to the massive success of the first season of the sci-fi political thriller. The debut installment ended with some cliffhangers, one of them being Samantha "Sinatra" Redmond’s future.
Sinatra, who pulls the strings from the background all through the season, ends up being shot in the finale. She then fights for her life in a hospital, leaving the audience wondering whether she will make it out alive.
Series creator Dan Fogelman has now confirmed that Sinatra will return in Paradise season 2, with actress Julianne Nicholson reprising her role. He also teased that she would recover over time and try to regain her control over the bunker.
Dan Fogelman confirms Sinatra will appear in Paradise Season 2
Dan Fogelman talked about Sinatra’s return in Paradise season 2 in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. The series creator said the villain is powerless for now but won’t be spending the entire next season in the hospital:
“She’s incapacitated. But Julianne is going to be in the show next year, and she’s not going to be in a bed the entire season. However Sinatra, like any delicious leader, even when she’s a step behind the curve and losing control, she always seemed to find a way out of it and regain control.”
Fogelman added that it will be interesting to see how Sinatra bounces back in Paradise season 2, as she is currently at the lowest point of her life:
“What you’re seeing at the end of the season is Sinatra at her lowest point. She’s lost control. She’s physically incapacitated. This crazy young woman [Jane, who shot her] is hovering over her and so the question of season two is: How does she come back to center?”
Fogelman added,
“How does she try to regain power? Is she able to? Do the turn of events cause a change in her? Those are all the large questions on the table.”
The creator added that Sinatra will continue to be an integral part of the storyline in Paradise season 2, as the show takes a deeper dive into the mystery of the bunker city. Hence, Julianne Nicholson is going to continue to impress the audience with her stellar performance in the upcoming season.
What happened to Sinatra in Paradise Season 1?
Samantha Redmond, aka Sinatra, is one of the most powerful people in the secret bunker city. Years ago, she brought a group of experts together to build the hidden settlement, preparing for a disaster that would destroy the world.
In Season 1, she controls the city, making rules and keeping secrets about what is really happening outside. After President Bradford is found dead, Sinatra takes charge, acting like she is the only one who can keep the bunker safe. But Agent Collins suspects her and starts to look for answers.
When Collins and his allies uncover the truth that the world outside might still be livable, Sinatra works to stop them. She hires Secret Service Agent Jane to kill Billy Pace, one of Collins’ closest friends, to keep him from talking. She also keeps the truth about Collins’ wife hidden and uses it to control him.
In the season finale, Collins has a confrontation with her, during which Jane unexpectedly appears and shoots her. By the end, Sinatra is gravely injured and loses her control over the bunker.
The release date of Paradise season 2 remains to be announced. Meanwhile, the complete first season is streaming on Hulu.
