Marvel fans were hyped after seeing the beloved mutant Ororo Munroe, i.e. Storm finally making her debut through What If...? Moreover, she is a goddess now as we see her holding Thor's hammer Mjölnir. Initially, it was believed that she'd appear in the eighth episode of What If...?, but it turns out she debuts in the seventh one and will carry on to the finale, suggesting a continuing storyline.
In an interview with Screenrant, when asked about her involvement and that of other X-Men in the future, Brad Winderbaum, first praised voice actress Alison Sealy-Smith. Marvel Studios' head of streaming, television, and animation said:
"She's unbelievable. There's such depth that she brings to this character in her vocal performance, so once the synapses fired, we were like, 'We could do this in What If...?' It was just a no-brainer, and the fact that she was the Goddess of Thunder in a very famous issue of What If....? just brought the whole thing together."
What is What If...? Season 3 Episode 7 about?
The title of What If...? Season 3 Episode 7 is "What If... the Watcher Disappeared?". The episode's main storyline will probably revolve around The Watcher (the one voiced by Jeffrey Wright) trying to escape his confinement from the other Watchers. The other Watchers are displeased with his repeated interferences and decide to confront him.
While people initially thought this episode would only feature The Watcher, a clip released by Marvel suggested otherwise. The clip features Hayley Atwell reprising her Captain Carter role, Storm voiced by X-Men: The Animated Series and X-Men'97's Alison Sealy-Smith, Devery Jacobs' Kahhori and Natasha Lyonne's Byrdie (Darcy and Howard the Duck's daughter).
In the clip, young heroes Kahori and Byrdie are playing on the foosball table while Captain Carter and Storm are investigating a glass shard that broke and flew into space as The Watcher was pushed towards it by the other Watchers. This happened right at the tail-end of the sixth episode "What If... 1872?"
Will What If...? Season 3 Episode 7 lead to Episode 8?
As of now, that's what it looks like. The Entertainment Weekly's report from December 27, 2024, states the voice actors from What If...? Season 3 Episode 7 return for the Eighth Episode, which is titled "What If... What If?" However, considering that it is the final season of What If...?, it won't be surprising if there are surprise cameos too.
Is What If...? the last from Marvel Studios Animation?
The answer is no. Several new projects are coming out from the animation branch of Marvel Studios. Some of the animated shows that may share a connection with the mainstream MCU are Eyes of Wakanda and the What If...? spin-off Marvel Zombies which will start streaming on October 3, 2025.
Apart from that, fans will also get a chance to experience a new origin story for Peter Parker in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. The first episode will be accessible to everyone on 29th January 2025. So, the future of Marvel animation looks bright for now and is not just restricted to What If...?
