FX has only just released Season 2 of The Old Man, so the renewal status for Season 3 is yet to be confirmed. The Old Man returned in September 2024 for a second season of action and suspense. Based on the novel by Thomas Perry, the series tells the story of a retired CIA operative, Jeff Bridges' Dan Chase, who comes out of hiding after someone tries to kill him.
To rescue their daughter Emily from Hamzad, Dan and Harold travel to Afghanistan. Things take a dark turn when Emily discovers she is not who she thinks she is, making it difficult for Dan to complete his mission.

Recently The Old Man actress Amy Brenneman might have hinted a little on what the production team is about to do next. While making an appearance on the Playlist’s Bingeworthy podcast she said;
“I don’t know if there we don’t know if there’s gonna be a Season 3, but it would be kind of odd if there wasn’t just the way we [ended] with Season 2."
Jeff Bridges throws some light on the possible The Old Man Season 3
The Old Man Season 3 looks set to stay in the running, according to one of its stars. The hit FX drama, starring Jeff Bridges, follows a former CIA veteran who is lured out of retirement and back into international espionage when he learns his daughter may have gone missing.
A third season remains unannounced following the conclusion of season two, which was largely filmed in the Californian desert. Jeff also explains that each time he plays his character of Dan Chase in The Old Man, it's like a muscle memory. He explains it by saying;
“No matter how long it's been in between a long time, you just pick up where you left off. Boom. You know, it's like muscle memory or something."
What does The Old Man Season 3 depend on?
The release of The Old Man Season 3 will depend on the critical performance of Season 2 when the results come out on the charts. So far, Seasons 1 and 2 of the Jeff Bridges drama have received middling reviews since the series launched.
The series has a decent Rotten Tomatoes score of 85%. However, Season 2 has a score of 73%, compared to 97% for Season 1. Despite this lower rating, audiences are still following the show. The ratings are still very strong and it has topped Hulu's streaming chart on several occasions and has remained in the top 10 on the platform.
Given this, FX is likely to renew The Old Man for a third season; it is just a matter of when.
Season 2 finale sets up possible storyline for season 3
The second season of The Old Man on FX has ended. Dan Chase's life is in danger. Chase needs an antidote because he has been poisoned. Harper has just found out that Marion is planning to turn Emily into a Chinese spy. Emily, it turns out, is still alive, even though Chase thought she was dead.
This scene shows the end of Emily's phone call with Chase when she was dead in his eyes. The Russian mercenaries have attacked and killed Hamzad's sister.
The mercenaries tell Emily that they will give her their information if she gives them information about Hamzad. They put her in a cell and tell her to write down everything she knew. They review the information, and as a reward, one of the guards gives her a bottle of vodka. In turn, she hits him over the head with the vodka bottle and runs away.
In the final scenes, Emily finds Chase. She tells him that she's not the innocent daughter he thought he knew. She tells him he needs to find Lou Barlow to save Harper from Marion. Emily doesn't care how much blood is spilled. She has also tapped into Zoe's phone to find out where they are hiding.
The story for the third season will be a continuation of what happened at the end of the second, and its storyline will depend on the situations that have taken place.
Season 2 of The Old Man that has just ended is available to stream on FX.
