The question on everyone's lips is if there's going to be a Season 2 of Landman, the thrilling drama series that has caught everyone's attention with its depiction of the West Texas oil industry. The response is positive; Landman has been officially renewed for season 2 by Paramount+.

This comes after the series' first season, which was well-received, airing between November 2024 and January 2025. The co-created series by Taylor Sheridan, which includes Billy Bob Thornton, has been a Paramount+ success story, boasting its most-watched premiere and series finale of any Paramount+ show.

With its talented cast and gripping storyline, the series has touched hearts across the globe. Renewal for a second season is proof of its fan base and its effects on the world of streaming.

Background and success of Landman

Landman is based on the Boomtown podcast, which explores the influence of the West Texas oil boom on society and national politics. It boasts a gifted cast, comprising Billy Bob Thornton, Demi Moore, and Jon Hamm, and is produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, 101 Studios, and Bosque Ranch Productions.

The series' success lies in its innovative fusion of the Neo-Western genre with themes of modern times like energy, climate change, and economic development. The initial season of Landman was a huge success, placing among the top 10 original streaming shows of the fourth quarter of 2024.

It totaled almost 9.7 billion minutes watched during 11 weeks, based on Nielsen's streaming ratings. The series also broke a record for the highest global viewership for both the premiere and series finale, with 14.9 million homes watching.

This performance has contributed significantly to Paramount+ becoming the second-largest SVOD service in the U.S. for original hours viewed during the same period.

Cast and production

The cast of Landman is a key factor in its success. Billy Bob Thornton plays the central character, a fixer who navigates the complex world of oil operations in West Texas. Demi Moore stars alongside Thornton, with a supporting cast that includes Andy Garcia, Jon Hamm, and Colm Feore.

The series is co-created by Taylor Sheridan, known for his work on Yellowstone, and Christian Wallace, who also serves as an executive producer. Production of the show includes a crew of seasoned producers, such as Dan Friedkin and Jason Hoch of Imperative Entertainment, and K.ell and Crey of Texas Monthly.

The series is available through Paramount Global Content Distribution. With the pickup for season 2, fans can anticipate more intense storylines and character buildups, as indicated by Taylor Sheridan's intentions for the future chapter.

Future plans and expectations

The second season of Landman is anticipated to build on the cliffhanger ending of the first season, where oil baron Monty Miller's death leaves his empire in turmoil. Billy Bob Thornton's character will face new challenges as he navigates this changed landscape.

Taylor Sheridan has hinted that there is "a lot more story left to tell," especially with Demi Moore's character, Cami Miller, who will probably have a major role to play in the next season. Season 2 production is set to begin soon, with preparations already being made in northwest Tarrant County, Texas.

Although precise plot details have not been revealed, fans are already looking forward to the premiere of the new season, which might make its debut before the close of 2025 if it takes a comparable production schedule to the initial season.
