Willa Fitzgerald's Officer Roscoe Conklin was a fan-favorite character and one of Jack's biggest allies in Reacher Season 1.

However, she does not appear in Season 2, where Jack goes on a different mission and has a different love interest. Since the first three episodes of Season 3 have dropped on Amazon Prime Video, fans are wondering whether Roscoe will return for the new season.

According to Reacher's storyline thus far and Lee Child's Persuader (from which Season 3 is adapted), Roscoe might not return for Season 3.

Season 3's premiere saw Jack reconnecting with Neagley to dig in information about Quinn; he does not let her in on any details of his mission, which hints that he will not include past partners and friends in his new mission.

Let us now explore in detail why Roscoe's return might not happen in Reacher Season 3.

Why is Roscoe's return difficult in Reacher Season 3?

While Roscoe was a fan-favorite character and a possible love interest for Jack in Season 1, her return in Season 3 is difficult. Because the series is based on Child's books, there's a chance that like the first novel in the series, Killing Floor, Roscoe was meant to only appear in Season 1.

Roscoe's return is difficult since every novel in the series is a standalone book focusing on Jack's new mission. However, the show's makers made some changes to Child's books and introduced some characters as cameos in Season 2, but the same cannot be said about Season 3 because it is a high-stakes mission for Jack.

Jack's mission in Season 3, to infiltrate Zachery Beck's operation and kill his old nemesis, Quinn, has higher stakes than previous seasons. Not only is Jack undercover, he cannot even use his mobile phones to maintain contact with the outside world, which makes Roscoe's return difficult.

In an interview with Forbes, Fitzgerald discussed the possibility of Roscoe's return, saying she has no update on it as of now:

“I don’t have any insider knowledge about whether there will be more Roscoe or not. I’m as much in the dark as anyone else, but I love playing that character and I loved getting the chance to help initiate the Reacher television universe.”

Jack is a lone hero in Child's book series

Part of the charm of Jack's character in Child's book series is that he is a solitary hero figure who typically works alone and takes the bad guys down.

This thematic significance is at the center of the show's universe and one that makers might want to tap in to stay faithful to the books, which is why, not many past characters are included in Season 3.

Fans who have already read the books don't even want the makers to bring back past characters like Roscoe in further seasons as it would be out of place with Jack's character. As one Reddit user, u/TH3-3ND, notes:

''I don't understand why it's hard to follow what's written. The books are titled jack reacher, not jack reacher and friends. They should focus more on his brutality and not try to make him a people person.''

Another user, u/simonthecat33, notes:

''...one of the driving forces of the Reacher series is him being a loner. They’ve already inserted Maria Stens’ character into two seasons based on books that she was not in. Although I understand and agree with why they did that, it would be a mistake to start including characters from previous seasons''

Considering fan opinions and the original story, chances are that Roscoe will not pop in on Jack's latest mission, aligning with the wishes of book readers.
