911: Lone Star recently wrapped up after a 5 season run as the final season premiered on February 3, 2025. A spin-off of the main 911 series, the Fox show had enjoyed a good run with both critics and audiences giving it favorable reviews.
A show about first responders, 911: Lone Star’s central character is Owen Stand, played by Rob Lowe, as he moves to Austin, Texas from New York.
As his character learns more about the community he is ready to serve, the storyline progresses with him and his colleagues as they navigate their personal and professional lives.
Talking about the show’s end, Rashad Raisani, the showrunner, mentioned in an interview with Entertainment Weekly,
"My ultimate feeling was, 'It's hard enough that the show's ending too early. That, to me, was the real loss. So why not allow these people to emerge, and give the audience a message of hope at the end of it? Letting them see these characters went through hell, but they came out the other side.”
With the show’s end, fans are now eager to know if Owen Stand can come back in some capacity within the same universe. Given the fact that Stand does not die at the end of 911: Lone Star and heads back to New York where he can resume working, let us now explore the possibilities of Owen Stand making a comeback.
Rob Lowe does not die at the end of 911: Lone Star
As already mentioned, Rob Lowe’s Owen Stand makes it safely to New York at the end of 911: Lone Star and that means he can be back in action. Despite the show ending rather definitively regarding its plotline, the fate of the main characters, including Owen, has been left open-ended.
The actor himself does not seem to be keen on giving up on his character as he mentioned in an interview with TV Insider,
I mean, I never say never. I never say never. And I would be open to anything as long as it is not trying to be a cheaper, on low budget knockoff of what we worked so hard to establish.”
He further added,
“I think we leave a legacy, not to put too fine a point on it, on storytelling, big spectacle, big cast, great actors, stars, and if there’s an appetite for that that still exists. I’m down."
This shows how greatly he appreciates his character and role and given the ending of 911: Lone Star Owen can very much be back in some other spin-off of 911. In another interview with Variety, Lowe had mentioned,
"I never say never to anything. I learned that a long time ago. It’s always a function of, what’s the story, what’s the script, who’s doing it, how good is the show?”
Adding,
“Is it a cheaper, wannabe version, or is it going to continue to have the kind of production value hallmarks that we’re really proud of, that we did on our show? Who knows? We’ll have to see what everything looks like."
Therefore, while nothing has been confirmed as of now regarding Lowe coming back as Owen in the 911 universe it won’t be unreasonable to hope it happens at some point.
