The Latest medical drama, Pulse, Netflix's answer to ABC's Grey's Anatomy, premiered on the network on April 3, 2025, with Season 1, which had ten episodes.
The story follows the tumultuous relationship between residents and doctors in a fictional Miami trauma centre, especially between third-resident Danny and her boss Xander, against whom she files a sexual harassment case.
While the characters handled the strong hurricane winds well, the show received mixed ratings and has not yet been renewed for Season 2. But given the show's popularity and the showrunner's plans for the series' future, a sophomore season seems inevitable.
More on Pulse Season 2 in our story.
Netflix has not renewed Pulse for Season 2 yet
While Netflix has not renewed Pulse for Season 2 yet, fans can expect a sophomore season, considering medical procedurals, which usually run long. The latest medical series received mixed reviews and a 57% score on RT, but we hope the drama keeps growing.
The showrunners are quite certain that Netflix will renew the show for another season, as Zoe Robyn and Carlton Cuse discussed their future plans with Variety:
''I think we’d probably start wondering around Season 23 or 24 whether we should wrap it up.''
Talking about what viewers can expect from Danny and Xander's relationship in Season 2, they teased (via Variety):
''I think moving forward, those personal hurdles that they both have are going to remain there, and those are going to continue to present challenges for them. We’ll explore that more in Season 2 in terms of those deeper emotional challenges for them.''
Pulse Season 1 left many unanswered questions
While Netflix is yet to renew Pulse for a sophomore season and the future of the medical procedural is uncertain for now, the show did leave its viewers on the edge in the finale.
While Xander and Danny's relationship finally took a positive turn, it would be worth waiting to see if they could maintain it in the future. The most shocking revelation was about Xander's past, where, as a young resident, a patient died on his watch, and the hospital made him sign an NDA.
When Glen, the man who had a disagreement with Danny and Harper in the foyer, returned to the hospital with his wife and baby after a car accident, the tensions were high.
Harper was quick to recognize that the baby was overweight and was thus having breathing issues; they were able to stabilize him. However, the wife, Catherine, needed urgent care.
While opening her chest, Xander froze on the scene and reminisced about the patient who died on his watch and how his mother covered everything up to save his career. Danny snaps him out of it, and they end up confessing their love and vulnerabilities to one another.
While Danny reassures him that the hospital will not be a problem for them, Cruz reveals that she is her choice of chief resident for the next year. However, Patrick announces Sam as the chief resident at the year-end party, much to Cruz and Danny's surprise.
Elsewhere, Xander comes clean about his past to the board of directors, and the Pulse Season 1 finale ends with uncertainty about both Danny and Xander's future at the hospital.
