Wednesday Season 1 was an immediate success when it debuted in 2022. Naturally, the program received a second season renewal. However, production was delayed for various reasons, and fans are still waiting for the official update on a release date for Wednesday Season 2.
Netflix, however, announced the complete cast list of Wednesday Season 2 in May 2024, and the name of Percy Hynes, who played the role of Xavier Thorpe, was absent from the list. He was dropped following certain sexual allegations against him, and therefore, he will not be returning in Wednesday Season 2.
Along with Hynes, Naomi J. Ogawa and Jamie McShane, who played the roles of Yoko Tanaka and Donovan Galpin, respectively, were also missing from the list, but only because their characters were not supposed to be in season 2.
Let us explore the reason behind Percy Hynes being dropped from Wednesday Season 2.
Why will Percy Hynes not return in Wednesday Season 2?
Hynes’ exclusion from the cast of Wednesday Season 2 came in the wake of allegations of sexual assaults made against him by an X user. While it has not been confirmed as the official reason, it is quite evident that those allegations are the reason behind him not being a part of the show.
The X user’s claims are as follows:
“He would pursue, have sex with, abuse and get my friend high who was 13/14 at the time. Last time I knew they had sex she was 16 and he was 20. He assaulted me at one of those parties while I was too drunk, and he had cornered and pressured and assaulted multiple of my friends.”
Given the serious nature of these allegations, a number of fans called for Percy’s termination from Wednesday, which is what happened eventually.
How did Percy Hynes respond to the allegations against him?
After the allegations, Hynes addressed them immediately, calling those claims misinformation and lies. He said that he had never met whoever made those accusations against him, and because of their lies, his family got doxxed and his friends also received death threats.
According to Variety, he stated,
“Underage photos of me were used, and examples of me acting in character were presented as hateful. My friend Jane was falsely portrayed as a victim, and her attempts to set the record straight have been ignored. She gave me permission to include her in this message.
He continued,
"The rumors are false. I can’t accept the portrayal of me as someone bigoted or criminally negligent of people’s safety. These are the kind of baseless, harmful claims that can create mistrust toward victims. It’s very distressing to know that this misinformation has upset people. I’m really thankful for everyone who’s stood by me and helped share the facts. Harassment of my family, friends, and coworkers needs to stop, please. Thank you for taking the time to read this.”
In September 2023, rumors of Percy being fired from the show began to circulate, even though the actor had maintained his innocence and there had been no official evidence against him.
With the cast list released in May 2024, it was confirmed that Hynes will not be returning for Wednesday Season 2. The actor, however, continued to show his support for the show even after he was dropped from it and even shared a picture of the new cast members for season 2 after stories of him being dropped broke, captioning it,
“I had so much fun working on this show. I can’t wait to watch season two. Much love.”
While there is no official release date yet, Wednesday Season 2 is most likely to premiere in 2025.
Wednesday Season 1 can be streamed on Netflix.
