Daredevil: Born Again began with Matt Murdock retiring as The Man Without Fear. That's because Matt threw Benjamin Poindexter/Bullseye off the rooftop in an attempt to kill the assassin as the latter fatally shot Foggy Nelson. Matt hasn't suited up as Daredevil ever since the opening moments of the first episode where Foggy dies.

It is because Matt crossed the line by attempting to kill Poindexter that Matt retires his vigilante alter-ego and decides to become a full-time lawyer. However, the concluding moments of the third episode may finally cause Matt to let the devil out and suit as The Man Without Fear again in the fourth episode of Daredevil: Born Again.

Why Daredevil: Born Again's fourth episode may finally bring back Daredevil in costume?

The first episode of Daredevil: Born Again introduces a new status quo for this new world as Wilson Fisk is New York's mayor who won the election on an anti-vigilante stand. The first episode concludes with Fisk's win as Matt has to adjust to this new reality. In the second episode, we are introduced to a new character named Hector Ayala, who moonlights as the vigilante White Tiger.

Hector Ayala (in his civilian outfit) tries to help a man who is being assaulted by two men. One of these two assaulting men lunges at Hector but he evades that attack, causing the attacker to trip and hit by a train. It is only after this that the surviving attacker reveals himself and the dead man as police officers. Later in the episode, Matt overhears cops brutally beating Hector, deciding to take him as a client.

However, Matt also figures out that Hector is hiding a secret, which turns out to be the latter's vigilante persona the White Tiger. Matt in the second episode convinces the judge to overlook Ayala's actions as The White Tiger and focus the trial only on Ayala's altercation with the cops, and Matt's resident investigator Cherry even manages to find Nicky Torres, the man who Ayala tried to help.

However, Torres lies on the stand after feeling intimidated by looking at the cops in episode 3. To ensure that Hector is kept out of prison and not guilty, Matt as a desperate Hail Mary outs Hector as the White Tiger himself. This revelation softens some members of the jury and even some cops on Hector. Thus, Hector is declared not guilty at the end of the trial.

While outing Hector's alter ego kept him out of prison, it painted a target on Hector and probably even his family's back. After getting his name cleared, Hector suits up as The White Tiger and even wears his mystical amulet. As he is running towards someone pleading for help a hooded figure hidden in the shadows, comes out of nowhere and fatally shoots The White Tiger.

Matt Murdock's sudden outing of Hector Ayala is the reason why everyone was aware of the White Tiger's secret identity. Even Hector wasn't aware that Matt was outing him, something he pointed out to the latter as they were waiting for the verdict. Outing The White Tiger's identity is a massive blunder on Matt's part and it cost Hector his life. This is why Matt may finally come out of retirement and begin suiting up in the fourth episode.

"In Marvel Television’s 'Daredevil: Born Again', Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), a blind lawyer with heightened abilities, is fighting for justice through his bustling law firm, while former mob boss Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) pursues his own political endeavors in New York. When their past identities begin to emerge, both men find themselves on an inevitable collision course."
