CBS’ NCIS franchise is only going to grow bigger with the addition of its latest spin-off, NCIS: Tony & Ziva. The show is centered on former agents Anthony DiNozzo and Ziva David, who left the agency and now live in Europe to raise their daughter away from all the dangerous activities.

Some of the previous spin-offs in the franchise have featured cameo appearances by original NCIS stars, tying all these shows together. One of them is Dr. Jimmy Palmer, played by Brian Dietzen, who has been a part of the mothership series since its inception and has also appeared in NCIS: New Orleans and NCIS: Hawai'i.

However, Brian Dietzen has confirmed that Jimmy Palmer is not going to be seen in NCIS: Tony & Ziva, at least in the first season. The actor added that he is willing to appear in the new spin-off if he is asked to.

Brian Dietzen reveals whether Jimmy Palmer will appear in NCIS: Tony & Ziva

Brian Dietzen recently had an interview with TV Insider, where he talked about his potential appearance in NCIS: Tony & Ziva. The actor said while he would love to be a part of the show and reunite with his former co-stars, Jimmy is not a part of the narrative in the first season:

“From what I hear, they had an absolutely wonderful time and I cannot wait to see it. And if Jimmy were able to pop up on the screen there, I would love for it to happen, but I’m afraid to say it’s not going to happen in their first season.”

This essentially means that the creators are trying to give the show its own identity, with little to no connection with NCIS, as no actors from the original series have been confirmed to appear in the spin-off.

Jimmy Palmer has been an integral part of NCIS since the show’s very first season in 2003. The doctor was initially introduced as a recurring character and was later promoted to series regular in season 10. Jimmy started as a medical examiner assistant and now serves as the chief medical examiner in the agency.

More about NCIS: Tony & Ziva

Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo, who starred as Anthony DiNozzo and Ziva David, respectively, in NCIS, are reprising their roles as the leads of NCIS: Tony & Ziva. They are joined by Isla Gie, who plays their 12-year-old daughter Tali.

The series revolves around the family, as Tony runs a security company in Europe and lives a peaceful life with Ziva and Tali. However, when the company is attacked, the family is forced to run from their home and get embroiled in a dangerous criminal world.

The trio then have to keep faith in each other to stay safe in this time of adversity as they travel across Europe to escape their perpetrators. Apart from the lead trio, the show also stars Amita Suman as Claudette, Terence Maynard as Dr. Lang, James D’Arcy as Henry, Lara Rossi as Sophie, and Julian Ovenden as Jonah.

Meanwhile, another NCIS spin-off recently debuted on CBS, as NCIS: Origins aired its first season from October 2024 to February 2025. The show chronicles Agent Leroy Gibbs’ early days in the agency. After a positive reception from the audience, the series has been renewed for a second season.

NCIS: Tony & Ziva will premiere on Paramount+ but its release date has not been announced yet.
