The animated superhero series Invincible is back with Season 3. Created by Robert Kirkman and based on the popular comicbook series written by him, the show is packed with intense storytelling and character buildup. The story follows Mark Grayson (voice of Steven Yeun), a young man who has supernatural abilities and is determined to save the world from extra-terrestrial enemies.
A recently-released teaser of Invincible hints at major twists and promises big revelations in Episode 4 of the third season. Invincible Season 3 Episode 4 teases the appearance of a powerful figure — King Immortal.
King Immortal is portrayed as a former ally turned tyrant, whose rule has led to rebellions that have, in turn, led to widespread violence and terror. As Season 3 proceeds, we see narrative turns that include Mark falling out with Cecil (Walton Goggins), the director of Global Defense Agency (GDA). Mark's relationship with Eve (Gillian Jacobs) is destroyed, and new characters like Dropkick and Fightmaster are introduced.
The 24-second teaser features an injured Mark, who dramatically declares:
"This is not over."
We are introduced to the new characters, Dropkick and Fightmaster. They are time travelers who reveal details about King Immortal to Mark. The teaser hinted at the time travelers explaining to Mark how the rebellion was born, and that a new adventure was in store for him.
King Immortal's introduction has raised excitement among fans of the original comicbooks. It would be interesting to see how Mark time travels to the future and saves the people from King Immortal.
Read on to know more about King Immortal, and why he will be a pivotal character in the show.
Who is King Immortal in Invincible?
King Immortal is a key character in Invincible, known for his huge frame and superhuman abilities. Although his origins remain unclear, it is said that he was an unnamed Celtic warrior, and a cosmic anomaly led to his gaining immortality. Immortal tuned into a superhero in the 1930s, and he was the founding member of Guardians of the Globe. However, certain tragic events led his character to turn into a tyrant who controlled the planet.
King Immortal, despite his powers, is not as strong as Omni-Man (Mark Grayson's father and a powerful superhero). In fact, Omni-Man has often overpowered King Immortal during their confrontations. After being killed by Omni-Man, he was resurrected but with fewer powers. His story portrays a struggle to maintain relevance in a world with more powerful heroes.
King Immortal's role in Invincible Season 3 Episode 4
King Immortal is voiced by Ross Marquand in Invincible Season 3 Episode 4. The release of the teaser of the upcoming episode and a brief appearance of King Immortal has left the fans buzzing with speculations.
The teaser features Mark's face covered with blood, and Fightmaster and Dropkick appearing from a time traveler portal. The dialogue suggests that these time travelers have come to ask for help from Mark. The duo was initially interested in stealing the Declaration of Independence in the season's premiere episode, but now needs Mark's help.
In the comics, Dropkick and Fightmaster take Mark 200 years to the future, where they explain that millions of lives are at stake and the world is relying on Mark's power to defeat the tyrannical King Immortal, as a rebellion broke out leading to widespread destruction.
Viewers can expect intense action as the show sets up a probable fight between Mark and King Immortal, a person who was once good but turned into an evil and corrupt force. How will Mark face and tackle King Immortal, the former ally turned foe?
