As the fourth season drew to a thrilling close, Slow Horses is still riding the waves of its success. Amid appreciation for the thrilling finale, more happy news is incoming about Slow Horses with actor Hugo Weaving recently confirming his return to the sixth installment of the Apple TV+ show.

Hugo Weaving was recently attending the International Film Festival of India at Goa presenting an Australian thriller flick The Rooster directed by Mark Leonard Winter when he mentioned that he shall be reprising his role as Frank Harkness. It is yet unclear where he shall be appearing as Frank Harkness in the upcoming fifth season as well.

The upcoming fifth installment of Slow Horses is still in production and according to Variety, Weaving is scheduled to leave for London in January for a shooting period of two-and-a-half months. Speaking about the show and his continued contribution to it, Weaving added:

"Each season generally is a book, but also each season departs a little bit from those books, We’re getting to the point with ‘Slow Horses’ where the seasons are catching up to the amount of books that (Mick) Herron has written.”

Slow Horses follows a group of misfits and CIA rejects who are led by the no-nonsense Jackson Lamb, played by Gary Oldman, as they go about solving seemingly inconsequential and boring cases that turn out to be of great importance in international espionage.

Hugo Weaving's upcoming role in Slow Horses season 5, details revealed

Following the successful run of the fourth season, the makers of Slow Horses are busy shooting the upcoming installment. The official release date is yet to be announced and fans can expect the show to drop sometime next year. This is in keeping with the fact that the show does not utilize intensive CGI work and therefore can afford to return to the screens in a relatively shorter amount of time.

Even before the details for the fifth season are out, Apple TV+ has announced a sixth season for the show on the horizon. It can be expected that Hugo Weaving as Frank Harkness will assume a pivotal seat in the narrative.

The fourth season sheds light on Frank's sinister scheme in which he gave birth to several sons with multiple women and then held them forcibly at a shady compound in France. He aimed to develop them as child soldiers.

Eventually, the season wound up with River rebelling against Frank and being the only of his sons to do so. Hereafter, the conflict between River and Frank might be the centre of focus in the upcoming season. As per the official synopsis, the fifth season will find:

"The Slow Horses on the run as Diana Taverner embroils them all in a fatally high-stakes game of retaliation and revenge."

Slow Horses showrunner opens up about Hugo Weaving

In a recent interview with Collider, showrunner Will Smith opened up about Hugo Weaving's contribution and connection to the show. While speaking about Hugo's role in the upcoming season, he said:

"All I can say is that Hugo's character reappears in the books. That’s the only tantalizing glimpse I can give you of that. In terms of getting him, it was slightly odd in that he's actually my mum's cousin. My grandfather is his uncle. It's a strange thing. So, I've met him over the years. I've been out to Australia and stayed with his family, and he's been at family events. He was actually at my wedding, and he was filming at the time."
