Sweetpea premiered on Sky Atlantic and Starz in October 2024 and became popular due to its blend of humor, revenge drama, and a thrilling murder story. Starring Ella Purnell, the black comedy series follows Rhiannon Lewis, a seemingly normal girl who hides a dark secret.
After being a victim of bullying, Rhiannon snaps one day and goes on a killing spree, targeting the people who wronged her. Meanwhile, she continues to go under the radar by working as an administrative assistant at a newspaper.
After various twists and turns, the show ended its six-episode run on a cliffhanger, leaving the audience wanting more. Thankfully, Sweetpea season 2 is on the cards, as the series has been renewed.
The renewal status
Sky Atlantic and Starz have officially confirmed Sweetpea season 2. The renewal was announced on December 3, 2024, after a highly positive audience and critics response to the first installment.
Ella Purnell, who stars in the lead role, shared a statement expressing her excitement:
“Being part of Rhiannon’s coming-of-rage journey has been a career highlight for me, and to see fans engage with and relate to our oddball Rhiannon, in all her complexity, feels truly special. I cannot wait for audiences to see what she does next. Stay tuned.”
Alison Hoffman, the President at Starz, attributed the show’s renewal to the audience’s response and stated:
“Ella Purnell’s killer performance captured the journey of a woman finally finding her voice, and we’re thrilled with the response from critics and viewers.”
The filming schedule and release date for the second season have yet to be announced. Season 1 production began in November 2023, and the show premiered in October 2024.
Hence, if the filming of season 2 begins around the new year, it is expected to be released sometime in late 2025 or early 2026. Like the first installment, the second season will also be aired on Sky Atlantic in the UK and Starz in the US.
The storyline of Sweetpea Season 2
Sky Atlantic has teased what to expect from Sweetpea Season 2 by releasing an official logline:
“Season 2 will see Rhiannon Lewis return with a vengeance as her killer secret continues to spiral, and she becomes more twisted than ever.”
So, expect Rhiannon to continue with her killing spree. Meanwhile, she might become more ruthless, as she ended up killing an innocent victim in the previous season’s finale.
The crime scene also had a witness, so Season 2 is expected to reveal the extent to which Rhiannon goes to protect her dark secret.
The cast of Sweetpea Season 2
Ella Purnell is confirmed to be reprising her role as Rhiannon Lewis. The actress is also known for her roles in Prime Video’s Fallout and Showtime’s Yellowjackets. However, several characters were murdered in season 1, so a relatively fresh cast might be seen in the second season.
Some other actors who could return to the show include Alexandra Dowling as Seren, Leah Harvey as Marina, Jeremy Swift as Norman, Jon Pointing as Craig, and Nicôle Lecky as Julia. The returning cast of Sweetpea season 2 could be as follows:
- Ella Purnell as Rhiannon Lewis
- Alexandra Dowling as Seren
- Leah Harvey as Marina
- Jeremy Swift as Norman
- Jon Pointing as Craig
- Nicôle Lecky as Julia
Meanwhile, depending on the upcoming season's storyline, the cast will include some new additions. Based on CJ Skuse’s book, the show was created by Kirstie Swain, who also serves as an executive producer, along with Purnell.
