Disclaimer on Apple TV+ has earned a dedicated fan following in a short time. The psychological thriller series premiered on October 11, 2024, and has been appreciated by the audience and critics alike for its slow-burn narrative and thrilling storyline.

Based on Renée Knight’s 2015 book of the same name, the series revolves around a documentary journalist with a dark past, who comes across a novel based on her life, which can expose her secrets.

Cate Blanchett shines in the show as the journalist Catherine Ravenscroft. However, the first season features seven episodes which conclude on November 8, 2024.

This has left fans asking for more and wondering if there would be a Disclaimer Season 2. As of now, the series has not been renewed for a second installment.

Apple TV+ has not yet announced the renewal of Disclaimer for a second season. Fans might be disappointed to know that there is only a low possibility of the series being continued after the seven-episode first season. The reason is that the show is billed as a miniseries, which usually does not have multiple seasons.

Though there have been exceptions where limited shows have gone on for more than one season, what does not work in the favor of Disclaimer Season 2 is that the show is based on Renée Knight’s eponymous novel.

The book is a standalone story with no sequels. Hence, there is no source material for the second season and the makers will have to develop a fresh storyline themselves if they want to go ahead with another installment.

The writer and director of the series, Alfonso Cuarón, previously said in a press conference that he treated Disclaimer not as a show, but as a seven-chapter film. The filmmaker stated:

“In terms of this approach of motion pictures, it’s been known as film. I don’t know how to direct TV. Probably at this stage of my life, it’s too late to learn how to direct TV. We approached this whole thing as a film. There was never a conversation where we were doing something different.”

Since the creator sees the project as a self-contained seven-episode story, it further hampers the potential of a second season. However, the final decision lies with Apple TV+.

Considering the overwhelming response to the series by the audience, the streamer might just decide to continue it for another season with an original plot.

Disclaimer tells the story of Catherine Ravenscroft, an acclaimed documentary journalist hiding a horrific secret. Her life turns upside down when she receives a novel called The Perfect Stranger.

The novel happens to tell the life story of Ravenscroft, revealing how she neglected her son in the past while having an affair. The story takes place across two different timelines, showcasing how the affair took a deadly turn in the past, and how the novel’s contents petrify Ravenscroft in the present.

Things get worse when the journalist’s family and friends end up reading the novel. The official synopsis for the show reads:

“Acclaimed journalist Catherine Ravenscroft (Cate Blanchett) built her reputation revealing the misdeeds and transgressions of others. When she receives a novel from an unknown author, she is horrified to realize she is now the main character in a story that exposes her darkest secrets.”
“As Catherine races to uncover the writer’s true identity, she is forced to confront her past before it destroys her life and her relationships with her husband Robert (Sacha Baron Cohen) and their son Nicholas (Kodi Smit-McPhee)."

Disclaimer Season 1 airs new episodes on Fridays, with the finale scheduled to be released on November 8, 2024.
