Daredevil: Born Again marks Charlie Cox’s first full-fledged role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After playing the blind lawyer and vigilante in Netflix’s Daredevil, the actor made his debut in the MCU with a cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021.
While Daredevil: Born Again has yet to arrive on Disney+, Charlie might have already been finalized for his next superhero outing. As per speculations, the actor could star in an upcoming Avengers film.
The reports of his appearance in the Avengers sequel came out after a fitness center revealed Charlie was training with them for his role in the film. There are currently two Avengers films in the pipeline: Avengers: Doomsday, and Avengers: Secret Wars.
Will Charlie Cox star in Avengers after Daredevil: Born Again?
Neither Marvel Entertainment nor Charlie Cox has officially announced the actor’s involvement in an Avengers film as of now. However, there are speculations that he might appear in the movie after officially joining the MCU as Matt Murdock aka Daredevil in Daredevil: Born Again.
The actor is currently undergoing physical training in Australia for his upcoming Marvel projects. DFRNT Health & Fitness, the fitness center where he is sweating it out to prepare for his role, shared a post on Instagram, claiming that he is training for the upcoming Avengers film.
Sharing a picture featuring Charlie and his wife, DFRNT wrote on their Instagram handle:
“DAREDEVIL SPOTTED AT DFRNT. It’s been Awesome having Charlie and his wife, Sam Cox in at DFRNT over the past few weeks! Charlie is currently training for his role in the upcoming @marvel Avengers movie where he will play @daredevil. It’s been our absolute pleasure working with you both and we can’t wait to watch you on the big screen!”
While the fitness center seems to have accidentally leaked the news of Charlie being a part of Avengers: Doomsday, or Avengers: Secret Wars, it is also possible that he might be training for the second season of Daredevil: Born Again.
Both, Daredevil: Born Again season 2, and, Avengers: Doomsday, are set to begin filming in the first half of 2025. From the story's point of view, Matt Murdock’s appearance in the Avengers sequel does make sense. The film brings together various superheroes from the franchise who fight a deadly enemy.
Since most of the original Avengers have either died or retired, a relatively new set of superheroes will take the legacy forward, and Matt Murdock could be an integral part of the team.
Additionally, Daredevil: Born Again is a part of MCU Phase Five, which focuses on the Multiverse saga. The saga ends with Phase Six, which includes the releases of Avengers: Doomsday, and Avengers: Secret Wars.
Hence, the show is canon with other MCU projects, and it would not be a surprise to see Charlie Cox reprising his role as Matt Murdock in the upcoming Avengers films. That being said, we still need to wait for an official confirmation from Marvel.
What Charlie Cox has said about his potential appearance in Avengers?
While Charlie Cox has not directly addressed his involvement in Avengers, he hinted about wanting to be a part of the team during a fan interaction hosted by ScreenRant. When asked about his future in the MCU, the actor said:
“I have to be so careful. Look, I can't!; I'm not going to say, there's so many. There's one particular group of people that I would like to be invited to play with...But we'll get into that a little bit later.”
Since his debut as Daredevil in the MCU with Spider-Man: No Way Home, Charlie has reprised the role with guest appearances in the shows, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, and, Echo.
Daredevil: Born Again season 1 will begin airing on Disney+ on March 4, 2025. On the other hand, Avengers: Doomsday, and, Avengers: Secret Wars, will hit theaters on May 1, 2026, and May 7, 2027, respectively.
