Cobra Kai is a series that has been running on Netflix since May 2, 2018. It brings to the public the great revival of The Karate Kid series but with new, modern eyes. Based on the original films as its center of action and set decades later, the show takes up a martial arts-driven drama involving Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso.
One of the core characters in Cobra Kai is Johnny Lawrence. He is played by William Zabka. Once the golden boy of the Cobra Kai dojo, he is now a troubled, misunderstood man who has wrestled with his past and tried to rebuild his life for years.
Set to release on February 13, 2025, season 6, part 3, is going to wrap up many of the long-sustained rivalries. At the forefront of the storyline will be Daniel LaRusso vs. Johnny Lawrence, all while building off the shock of Kreese's action and the senseless loss of Sensei Kwon, which led to some high-stakes Sekai Taikai finals.
With this, fans are wondering if there will be a spinoff. As conyeved by Jon Hurwitz, the answer to this question is a yes. Recently, he posted on X:
This was the answer to a fan's comment that asked if any of the characters will have a spin-off.
More about the potential spin-off from Cobra Kai season 6, part 3
Jon Hurwitz, the series' creator, has expressed interest in a potential spin-off from Cobra Kai season 6, part 3. He has recently shared his thoughts on expanding The Karate Kid universe.
This would possibly be with a prequel focusing on Mr. Miyagi. This notion gained traction following Brian Takahashi's outstanding portrayal as a youthful Mr. Miyagi in a dream sequence during Season 6. His portrayal impressed the showrunners, increasing the likelihood of a spin-off.
The prospective prequel could delve into Miyagi's past, including his time in Okinawa and his experiences during World War II. This could provide a better understanding of the guy who mentored Daniel LaRusso. Hurwitz has hinted at a spin-off but has yet to confirm details.
The show has been a big success, and there is still room for other stories once it concludes in early 2025. Given the completion of the show, a spin-off might continue The Karate Kid's heritage.
Although the spin-off has not been confirmed, the foundation has been laid. Miyagi's life, particularly his service in Okinawa and the years of World War II, will eventually become more prominent. A spin-off could provide a fresh take on such a popular character.
