During early February, Hulu had greenlit a pilot order for the reboot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Besides bringing back Sarah Michelle Gellar herself as the titular Buffy Summers, another character who can have a potential return despite her arc in the original show is Charisma Carpenter’s Cordelia.
Cordelia Chase featured right from the first season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and continued her journey till the fifth season of Angel, which makes her an extremely important part of the Buffy universe.
Though her character growth was immense, Cordelia was killed off-screen in Angel Season 5 because of certain harassment and abuse allegations that Carpenter had brought against Joss Whedon, the series creator.
However, despite how her stint as Cordelia ended in Angel, Carpenter seems to be hopeful about her return in the reboot when it finally happens. She recently spoke about the same at the Indiana Comic-Con. She expressed her desire to play a significant role in a project.
Let us now explore in detail what Carpenter said regarding her views on returning as Cordelia in Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot.
Charisma Carpenter wants to return to Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot
As reported by Collider, Carpenter spoke about the possibility of her returning to the Buffy franchise with the reboot. While she acknowledges that the discussed project is at an extremely early stage and has not yet even been picked up, she said when talking about her return,
“I hope so. From what I understand, there isn’t even a pilot at the moment, so I hope — if I am involved — I hope so in some fashion it’s more in a substantive way. That would be my dream.”
She further added,
“I think it would be very poetic to be invited back, especially having the people that were involved to begin with, the best parts of it, Gail Berman, and then having Chloé Zhao direct — Oscar winner and, in general, badass [Laughs] — and then the Zuck sisters who are incredible writers and then obviously Sarah backing it and I hope to be part of it.”
Carpenter’s words show her eagerness to return to the show and while her death in Angel seems like a definitive end to her character, the creatives behind the show can surely find a way around her story to bring her back. She was a hugely popular character in the original show, and her return would only add more excitement in the minds of the fans.
