When Bookie premiered on Max in November 2023, it received critical acclaim for its satirical narrative. The show was soon renewed for a second season which debuted in December 2024 and concluded on January 30, 2025.
The comedy series tells the story of Danny Colavito, a Los Angeles-based bookmaker whose earnings begin to suffer when the government starts legalizing sports gambling in California. He then teams up with an eccentric set of characters to deal with his clients and settle their debts.
Despite a fresh premise and positive reception, the show has not been renewed for a third season. On February 18, 2025, Max officially announced that Bookie Season 3 is off the cards.
Bookie has been canceled by Max after two seasons
Bookie Season 3 is not happening as Max has canceled the show. The streamer did not reveal the official reason behind the show's cancellation but released a statement announcing they will not be moving forward with another season. The statement read:
“For two seasons creators Chuck Lorre and Nick Bakay and their hilarious cast, led by Sebastian Maniscalco, made us laugh while pulling back the curtain on the world of sports betting. We won’t be moving forward with a third season, but we are grateful to have worked with such a brilliant team on this laugh out loud comedy.”
The development comes as a surprise as the show has been well received by the critics and the audience. It holds a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 7.5 score on IMDb.
However, the show failed to reach the popularity of other Max original shows like The Pitt and Peacemaker, which might be a potential reason behind its cancellation.
