After a successful run at Apple TV+, it was only a matter of time before Bad Monkey was renewed for a second season. The approval from the powers that be at Warner Bros. Television is finally here, officially greenlighting Bad Monkeys for a second season. The Vince Vaughn starrer comedy show is produced by Bill Laurence in association with Vaughn himself and is based on the bestselling cult book by Carl Hiaasen.
At the center of Bad Monkey is the character of Andrew Yancy, played by Vince Vaughn. Yancy has been chewed out by the Miami police department and is currently navigating an uneventful job as a public health inspector in the Keys.
In his heart, all Yancy wants is to prove his mettle and be reinstated back into the Miami police department. A stroke of luck comes his way when an unexpected murder mystery concerning a human arm creates ripples all across Florida.

The debut season of Bad Monkey turned out to be a surprise hit and raked in immense audience admiration. It went on to secure the Rotten Tomatoes fresh rating and has also been described as the perfect vehicle for Vince Vaughn's character to shine. Speaking about the renewal of the show for a second season, executive producer Bill Lawrence stated in a press release:
"I hope that people know that Carl Hiaasen is an idol of mine and an inspiration for me as a writer, to get to go on telling his story with Vince Vaughn and this great cast, at least the characters who are still alive, is very exciting. I’m very thankful to our partners at Apple TV+ and Warner Bros, as well as the entire team that helps bring this show to life.”
Speaking at the same press release, Matt Cherniss added in his capacity as the head of programming at Apple TV+:
"Since ‘Bad Monkey’ first made its debut on Apple TV+, this highly entertaining series became an instant fan favorite, led by the incomparable Vince Vaughn as Andrew Yancy, alongside a brilliant ensemble cast, we can’t wait for everyone to experience more hilarious, sun-soaked, beachy misadventures from the mind of Bill Lawrence as the temperature rises even further in the next chapter of this engrossing murder-mystery.”
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Bill Lawrence revealed that he had initially pitched a three-season arc for the show to Apple TV+. He further added:
"They were really receptive to it, it’s challenging right now to make shows and especially to pick up your life and go make it. We both moved to Florida! It was insane. Hot in Florida is not hot like anywhere else; it’s like somebody put a bag of wet cement on your shoulders. It’s hot.”

The show follows Andrew Yancy as he goes about his job as a health inspector in Florida. He has been thrown out of the Miami police department and therefore wishes to somehow have his old job back.

Luck suddenly seems to favour him when one day tourists fish out a severed human arm and this causes a large hue and cry. Now all that Yancy needs to do is to get to the heart of the mystery, dodging the curveballs thrown at him by Florida and a strange monkey.
