Andor Season 2 was a part of several panels at the Star Wars Celebration event in Tokyo. Attending to promote the second season of the popular and acclaimed prequel solo streaming series were the cast and crew, including showrunner Tony Gilroy and actor Diego Luna. At this event, several details regarding the 12-episode series were revealed.

One of these details was the show's accessibility to fans worldwide. While three episodes of the 12-episode Andor Season 2 will be released every Tuesday between April 22, 2025, and May 13, 2025, on Disney+, Tony Gilroy's recent comments may suggest that season 2 might also be released theatrically at one point.

Here's what Andor Season 2 showrunner Tony Gilroy said about a possible theatrical release

Collider's editor-in-chief, Steve Weintraub, interviewed Tony Gilroy during the Star Wars Celebration. In this interview, showrunner Gilroy revealed that several episodes from the upcoming Andor Season 2 have been edited in a way that suits both a big-screen presentation and a streaming platform. The Andor Season 2 showrunner's exact words were:

"It's been discussed. We've mixed [Episodes] 1, 2, and 3 to play theatrically. They do need a little bit of an extra mix. We mix differently for how we deliver normally, because people watch on their iPads, on their TVs — it’s 5.1 [aspect ratio]. If you’re mixing for theaters, it's not like a switch. It takes a couple hours or a day to do that. So we have [Episodes] 1, 2, and 3. If there was enough interest, I'm sure Disney would roadshow it at some point. Why not? I think they have interest in showing [Episode] 12 going into Rouge [One], but that depends on how the show does. They look good on a big screen."

While this may sound like news to those who have not followed the series, fans who have been waiting for Andor Season 2 ever since the conclusion of the first season in November 2022 are not surprised. The first season was appreciated for its visuals and storytelling. The showrunner also confirmed that the theatrical versions of the episodes will not be accessible on Disney, saying:

"We've never done that. When we cut them together for the [Episodes] 1, 2, and 3 theatrical [cut], we do, we put all the credits at the end. People should be able to watch them, like, if you want to watch one episode on the first night and the second episode the second night, there should be a way to do that."

Tony Gilroy also revealed that he was feeling bad for all the podcast and YouTube channels relying on genre properties. This is a reference to podcasts and YouTube channels discussing the episodes of Andor Season 2. That's because of the show's release strategy, which involves releasing three episodes weekly until May 13, 2025. He said:

“To be honest with you, I feel really bad for the podcasters who are really going to have to catch up. Three episodes a week is a big nut to break down and analyze.”

Then, the showrunner was asked about his favorite three-episode arc in the upcoming season.

Tony Gilroy reveals his three favorite episodes in Andor Season 2:

Weintraub asked Tony Gilroy what the latter's favorite episodes from the upcoming Andor Season 2 were. To this, Gilroy responded that the 7th, 8th, and 9th episodes were his personal favorites. Mon Mothma actress Genevieve O’Reilly agreed with the showrunner and said this:

“The arc of that little film, [Episodes] 7, 8, and 9, for me, I just feel like that’s the fulcrum of the character. I think that was everything we were driving towards.”

Praising the structural and emotional scales of the upcoming season, Genevieve O’Reilly said:

“Tony and the writing team took such big dramatic swings that allowed us to have arcs within arcs. There are also bookend pieces for characters. Where we start is so very different to where we end up.”

Contrarily, Adria Arjona, the actress who plays Bix, was unable to pick her favorite episodes, saying:

“Like every character this season, it will be hard for me to pick for any character. Every character really goes through really interesting arcs.”
