Dave Filoni is the creator, writer, and showrunner of Ahsoka Season 2. He is also the co-creator of the upcoming Star Wars spin-off movie The Mandalorian & Grogu, with director Jon Favreau. Finally, he is also working on developing another spin-off movie. Filoni is at the centre of several upcoming Star Wars projects.

In conversation with Screen Rant at the Star Wars Celebration 2025, Filoni revealed that The Mandalorian & Grogu will act as a continuation of Ahsoka Season 2, and his own untitled project will also be deeply connected to the Disney+ show as well. As the writer, director, and executive producer of several Star Wars projects, including the show and the two upcoming movies, Filoni is at the centre of a very ambitious interconnected arc.

Here's what Filoni had to say about the interconnectedness of Ahsoka Season 2 and his upcoming projects:

"Yeah, it's interesting. You probably know from working with me over the years that I work in very big arcs and timelines. I always have a lot of things planned, but I'm always able to move things on that big board. And so Ahsoka season 2 was a plan that I had obviously off season 1, if I got to continue, and I had an idea of where that went and then a lot of things happened that were out of my control. That made a lot of challenges to actually accomplishing that."
"But I was able to accomplish it and unpack where it went. But until I fully understood [Ahsoka] season 2, I wouldn't understand how the movie should go, so all these things kind of grow out of each other."

Filoni is slowly yet steadily building up his story, which is riding on arcs that evolve over time. He revealed that he is coordinating with Favreau (director of The Mandalorian & Grogu) to thoughtfully figure out the greater narrative threads, which will finally pull characters like Ahsoka, Grogu, and Thrawn together for a greater cinematic payoff.

"As Jon [Favreau]'s finishing his movie, and I'm tracking all these elements as they're coming together. So, Jon and I talk a lot about what's happening in the future, where we need to go."

He hopes to bring it all together with his untitled film as well. He's putting in a lot of effort and thought into creating an exciting experience for the viewers, so that the story can connect with them in a meaningful way.

"We also look down the road at what's ahead of all of those things. It's already done, so it is coming together. There are a lot of things I debate about in certain ways and I want to give fans the greatest experience I can when I get to that point. So we'll have to see."

Filoni also mentioned teasingly that even though there is this interconnected arc for the projects, it could also go down in a completely different direction, as he has two different versions of how things can go down for him after Ahsoka Season 2.

"I have one idea that I like very much that I could tell you the opening, which I really like. So I hope I get to do that. But there's a completely different version that involves nothing that I'm thinking of that would be equally as exciting. But I feel like that one I'm running out of time to do. And one day I'll tell you what those two things are, maybe once I've chosen."

The groundwork laid down by Filoni to bring together these arcs in the Ahsoka Season 2 and the movies, and working closely with Favreau, is setting up the future of the Star Wars franchise quite excitingly.

The Mandalorian & Grogu is all set to release on May 22, 2026, and will mark the first Star Wars film in seven years. Fans have been waiting for this moment since The Rise of Skywalker hit the big screens in 2019.

Filoni is setting the bar of expectations quite high with his thoughtful and ambitious plans for Ahsoka Season 2 and his untitled film. His transparent and thoughtful planning proves exactly why fans should be very excited for the new era of the Star Wars universe.
