The devastating Los Angeles wildfires have cast a shadow over the 2025 Grammy Awards. As the county continues to burn, resulting in loss of life and property, the organizers are reportedly contemplating postponing the ceremony.
The 67th Grammy Awards are scheduled to take place on February 2, 2025, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. However, the event might not go ahead considering the situation in the city, where musicians have also been impacted by the natural disaster.
The wildfires began on January 7, 2025, and quickly spread across various parts of Southern California. At the time of writing, 16 lives have been lost and at least 5,000 structures have been destroyed due to the calamity.
The 2025 Grammy Awards might be postponed due to the Los Angeles wildfires
As per a report by The Hollywood Reporter, the organizers, The Recording Academy, are having discussions about what to do with the Grammy Awards ceremony amid the worrying situation in Los Angeles.
They are planning to either delay the event or turn it into a fundraiser to help the people affected by the wildfires. The organizers will take the final call in the next few days based on the circumstances in the city.
Meanwhile, a fundraiser is being planned in association with MusiCares, which will take place before the awards. MusiCares is a non-profit organization founded by The Recorded Academy that provides financial assistance to musicians in times of crisis.
The Recording Academy has also pledged to donate $1 million to support musicians affected by the fires via the Los Angeles Fire Relief Effort. If the Grammy Awards do get delayed, they will follow in the footsteps of the Critics Choice Awards, which were supposed to take place in LA on January 12, 2025, but have been postponed to January 26, 2025.
Meanwhile, the Oscar nominations announcement event has also been pushed by two days, from January 17 to January 19, 2025. The Grammy organizers are going to face a number of challenges if they decide to go ahead with the event on the scheduled date, as local businesses and hotels have severely been affected by the wildfires.
Some musicians are expected to have lost their instruments in the disaster. A number of celebrities have also lost their homes, including Mel Gibson, Paris Hilton, Diane Warren, Mandy Moore, and Anna Faris.
Hence, the Grammy Awards 2025 might be postponed, but the organizers have not yet made any official announcement regarding the delay. The event was previously postponed in the years 2021 and 2022 due to the advent of the Covid pandemic.
The Los Angeles wildfires started in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood on January 7, 2025, and soon took over Santa Monica and Malibu. The county still has six active fires spanning thousands of acres. While firefighters are working 24 hours a day to control the devastation, only 11% of the Palisades fire has so far been contained.
