The events of Daredevil: Born Again episode 5 showed us Matt Murdock being held hostage at a bank. However, the robbers were not after money, they were after an orange stone, worth millions of dollars. This stone looks eerily familiar to the soul stone we had seen first in Avengers: Infinity Wars. Netizens are wondering if this is a hint at a Foggy's return in Daredevil: Born Again.

Foggy, aka Franklin Nelson, Murdock's law partner and best friend was killed off in the first episode of Daredevil: Born Again. His death has been the reason Matt Murdock let go of his Daredevil persona out of guilt for not being able to protect his best friend. The arrival of the mysterious orange stone in episode 5 has raised fans' hope that it could lead to Foggy's coming back.

While many signs point towards a Foggy's comeback, there are some glaring loopholes as well.

Is Foggy coming back to Daredevil: Born Again Season 2?

The much-loved character Foggy died in the very first episode of season 1 of Daredevil: Born Again. However, a few hints might suggest that he is either not dead, or will be brought back.

Marvel Studios’ Brad Winderbaum in an interview with Brandon Davis confirmed that both Foggy Nelson and Karen Page will return in Season 2. Many thought he meant we would see Foggy in flashback scenes in Season 2, but there might be more to what Davis said. As pointed out by Collider's Aiden Kelley, the arrival of the soul stone in Matt Murdock's storyline is unlikely to be just an isolated incident. The showrunners could easily spin the story and bring Foggy back with the soul stone.

There is however a loop in this being a possible theory. Soul stone was one of the original six infinity stones that Thanos used to wipe out half of the population. He had reduced them to atoms to prevent anyone else from using them. But five years later, the Avengers went back in time, acquired them all, and undid Thanos' actions with Tony Stark's snap. After this Captain America had returned the stones to their respective universes. The soul stone returning to earth and then being kept at a not-so-secure bank is highly unlikely.

Besides, bringing a dead person from death does not go well ever and will not be an easy task. Thanos had to sacrifice a loved one (his daughter Gamora) on Vormir to acquire the stone. It is not exactly easy to attain it or use it. Bringing Foggy back from the dead will raise more questions than aiding the story.

Could Foggy be alive?

Most fans have interpreted Brad Winderbaum's statement to mean that Foggy will be in the flashback scenes in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. But it can be interpreted another way by closely looking at the comics. In the comics, Foggy had seemingly died when Matt Murdock could no longer feel his heartbeat, but was actually resuscitated in an ambulance later and then kept hidden away.

As GamesRadar+ points out, Marvel had posted a compilation of scenes in the show inspired by the comics. In the second slide of the post, we learn that Foggy's death scene was said to be inspired by Daredevil (1998) #82. In that comic, Foggy does seem to die but later comes back to Matt when Daredevil's enemies are after him. It is revealed that Foggy had faked his death to enter witness protection. If the death scene was inspired by Daredevil (1998) #82, perhaps some future event could be inspired by the same comic as well.

There has been no confirmation regarding how Foggy will return in Daredevil: Born Again. There has also not been any official news regarding why the mysterious stone resembling the soul stone was even shown in the show. However, according to theories and guesses, it will most likely play a significant role in Foggy's storyline in the future. In case, it doesn't have any connection to Foggy, it can still affect the Daredevil: Born Again storyline. It is very unlikely that the creators made an entire episode around the stone, but will not bring it back in future episodes or season 2.

New episodes of Daredevil: Born Again come out every Tuesday on Disney+.
