The White Lotus Season 3 finale aired on April 6, 2025 and it was the longest episode in the history of the series, with a runtime of 90 minutes. Creator and director Mark White has already garnered huge acclaim for the show since its very first season and fortunately for the fans, The White Lotus is set to come back with another season.
One of the major strengths of any season of The White Lotus is the actors and season 3 is no exception. While all the actors did a great job, Woody Harrelson, a renowned actor, missed out on the opportunity of being a part of The White Lotus Season 3.
This news led to fans speculating as to why he wasn't part of the final cast of the season. There were rumors that it may have been because of a dispute over his fees making the rounds on the internet. However, Harrelson later revealed that he could not be a part of The White Lotus Season 3 because of scheduling conflicts.
Woody Harrelson turned down White Lotus Season 3 because of a family vacation
Woody Harrelson had the opportunity to play either Rick (Walton Goggins) or Frank (Sam Rockwell), with the actor first being cosidered to play Rick but was finally brought on to play Frank.
Ever since this news went public, there has been a lot of speculation around why Harrelson turned down the role. One theory was that Harrelson apparently was not on board with Mike White’s policy of paying every actor the same amount as remuneration and it was monetary issues that led him to turn down the project.
Debunking all rumors of him turning down The White Lotus Season 3 due to disputes over his fees, Woody Harrelson told The Daily Beast
“I was set to do White Lotus and very excited. Unfortunately, their production schedule shifted, and conflicted with a pre-planned family vacation, forcing me to make an extremely hard decision.”
He further added,
“Things must be meant to be though because I couldn’t have done as fantastic a job as Sam, who is killing it.”
Harrelson’s statement also confirmed that he was supposed to play Rick’s friend Frank, who appeared during the middle of the season. Because of Harrelson’s scheduling conflict, the role went to Sam Rockwell, who received rave reviews for his portrayal of the character.
More on The White Lotus Season 3
As The White Lotus Season 3 came to an end, fans were treated to the explosive finale that was already teased by the actors and the creator. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Mike White had said,
“I do feel like the other seasons were a rehearsal for this one.”
Before the finale aired on Sunday, Charlotte Le Bon, who plays the character of Chloe had told Town & Country,
“People are going to hate Mike White. Sorry, but that’s his signature!”
Aimee Lou Wood, who plays the role of Chelsea, added,
“There’s triumph, there’s despair, it’s kind of the full spectrum of what White Lotus can be — it’s all in there. And also, I love the way it always repeats a format, but what’s occurring within it is so different and I think that this particular death is very different from the other deaths.”
As for fans who have already watched the finale, they would surely agree with Jon Gries who said,
“Whatever you think you know, you’re going to get it wrong.”
With season 4 yet to begin production, fans will have to wait a while before it releases. In the meantime, The White Lotus Season 3 can be streamed on Max.
